Well I have purchased off Amazon a lot because I find they have good prices. I am not sure about an extended warranty, I haven't purchased one but I do believe many popular camera gear sellers offer them like Adorama and B&H Camera which are two of the big sellers. I would avoid places like Ebay because of the risk of a gray market camera (a camera made for another country) because Canon and Nikon USA will not service gray market items.

You can't expect amazing photos right off the bat. But it certainly gives you room to TAKE great photos. That's why the camera itself matters less, it matters more how you use it.

Thanks for the advice! Ebay makes me leery as it is, so I probably wouldn't spend this amount of money on there   I'll check out Amazon & the other places you listed  

I know it takes a lot of practice, i'm just anxious to read up on it more & start learning about all the different settings and terms !

Well I decided to join this thread since taking pictures is one of my favorite things. I have a Nikon D5000 and I've had it for 3 years. When I first got it I tried learning more about it, then I started to get lazy and just used auto all the time. About a year and half ago I started using the P mode and now I've finally started using manual more. There is so much I want/need to learn though! Here's some examples of my pictures over the years
2009 when I first got it

2010

2011-finally took it off auto

2012-

and 2013-these are manual only

I've never done it before but it was a lot of fun and I'm gonna play with it some more tomorrow.
