hcg levels and dr.
posted 19th Aug
My d&c was on July 27th. my levels were higher than maybe average. I have recently had positive HPT results including one at the dr. office for my follow up appointment last week. The dr. didn't suggest anything, said she "suctioned out the gestational sac and left the rest alone" wasn't a molar pregnancy, and just to basically go home and wait. Told when I get preggo again to come in, but just go home and wait it out. I have not had a period and don't even feel like one is coming on (usually start on the 20th unless the d&c threw it off). Can I request my dr. or get a new dr. to get my hcg levels checked? Hubby thinks my dr. won't do it even if I ask. (She's not good with follow up stuff, has a curt attitude, 4-5 pts booked for same appt. so the wait is 2+ hrs just to get into a room, another 15-30 mins to see her). And Hubby thinks no other dr. would check the levels either. I would hope that's not true but what are your experiences? Should I ask my dr or get another one? Wait it out another month? TIA.

Definitely ask to get your levels checked! She should have done that already. Especially with you having a positive pregnancy test. How long ago was the D&C?

would ask for blood work. when I had my mc they took blood every week to make sure my levels were droping back to normal. And they had me get a trans vag ultrasound to make sure everything was passed and I was not pregnant again.

So sorry you are still going through this! I would get a new doctor based alone on what you described of your current doctor. If you're still getting positive HPTs this long after your D&C, I can't imagine that any doctor would refuse to blood work, as that can be a serious concern. Doesn't hurt to ask.

d&c was done on July 27th. I think given my current dr.s lack of follow up I am thinking about finding another dr. or even asking my primary care if he can check my hcg levels. Will my primary care even do that? He's a family physician but not GYN if that helps. Or should I seek out a new OB.GYN dr. to do the levels? The positive test result was on Aug. 15th at the dr. office, 3 days before that I got a positive on an HPT. Got a really faint positive (FRER) this morning in the time frame it says but it's faded to nothing now.

Your PCP would probably do it but I would get a new OB/gyn anyway!

I tested today (the results are in another topic) ... And I called my PCP he wants to refer me back to my ob/gyn the one who won't do the levels... Im ready to scream. My only hope now is to contact a new ob.gyn if they're accepting new patients and ask them to do my levels.

I would find someone new. I actually just had a d&c yesterday because I did have. Molar pregnancy and I've already been told that I will have to have follow up blood work. They also said I would have to be followed up on because molar pregnancy can sometimes lead to ovarian cancer. I would definitely get someone new to make sure your body is doing ok.

Thanks! Update: I have an appt. Monday with a new OB/GYN so hoping that goes well. Yesterday I was still getting positive results, but the lines are not any darker, still extremely faint. I picked up another HPT to try sometime this weekend to see if the line gets darker so I'll let ya know how it goes.
