How old do you think a child should be able to be awake with out adult supervision like you sleeping in your room and them watching tv in another room.

I'm just curious on everyone elses input

Depends, is the room child safe? Does the child understand not to open doors when someone knocks? And not to open doors in general?

DD is 4 and she can go in the living room and watch some cartoons in the morning but usually she likes to lay in bed with me and watch them on her nook

wow those votes have some sious spread on them! My DD is 4 and she usually wakes me up when she wakes up but if she doesnt she goes to the living room and puts on a movie. its not very often though that we get to sleep in so its not like everyday. usually we have to go somewhere and its us trying to drag her ass outta bed haha!

i think it would depend on the environment and the maturity level of the child.

I hear you, however, if you feel comfortable with it, who are we to say "OMG you horrid parent?!?!" ya know?

You know your child better than anyone else..

DD has always had free range in our house. Even in the other house we lived in (from when she was 1-3). The whole house was child proof, and she would hang out wherever she felt like it :shrugs:

ditto. and in MI I could legally leave my child home alone right now if I wanted to because there is no age limit. there is a suggestion but its based on parental judgement of maturity. of course I wouldnt, but I am just saying I could.

My son (3 in October, but has been doing this for a couple months) wakes me up every morning to get him cereal, he goes in his room and watches TV for a bit before I get up and out of bed. I don't go back to sleep, but I do get back in bed and mess around on the iPad for a bit before getting up. I AM NOT a morning person, lol.

It really depends on the child & the environment.

I'm between 3-4 and 5-6. I feel like there's a big difference in maturity between 3 and 4. I wouldn't leave SO's daughter alone in a room at 3 but at 4 I did.

I agree with closer to 4. Normally in the morning my 2 older boys who share a room, end up climbing in bed with me for a bit. They bug me until i get up (also not a morning person and the baby doesn't sleep through the night yet!) and then i make their breakfast, etc. When i make dinner and stuff like that, they are normally in the other room watching tv or playing with toys until it's done. My middle baby follows me around like a shadow no matter what I'm doing. i don't know if it's his age or because that's just the way he wants to do things. ;)

Depends entirely on the kid.

My older, I couldn't leave anywhere until she was 5+ because she'd end up destroying something or hurting herself. She had poor impulse control at that age. We co-slept all through those years and I never let her get up without me. When she was about 5 she started calming down and has been fine, very responsible even, ever since.

My younger could easily be left alone at 2.5 and I wouldn't have to worry about anything except minor mess (playing with glue, crayons, all easily dealt with), never outright destruction or anything really dangerous.

And now my 3.5 year old niece, she's fine alone for a while too. She doesn't like that though, every morning now she sits up in bed and calls for me when she wakes up. I'd rather she got up and watched TV because she's on the earlybird shift right now. And I'm soooo not.
