Thoughts on our name?

posted 17th Aug
I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter named: Sarah Elaine and we are going to have our second daughter in a few more weeks: Bethany Nichole Raelee. Both of their names is from family members Sarah and Bethany come from the same member who passed due to breast cancer and Elaine is my mothers middle name, Nichole is my sisters middle, Rae is his dads middle and one of his sisters middle names and Lee is his moms middle name as well as his other sisters and a few other peoples. I actually like Raelee as a name, but people give me weird looks for using it (even before knowing the spelling)... IYO is there something wrong with the name?

if you like it I see no problem. its a middle name, not a big deal. Name your child as you seem fit

Not a huge fan of Raelee.
But if ur hell bent on using it I think you should choose either Bethany Raelee or Bethany Nichole because that name as a whole is too much.

I can't stand Nichole though. Nikole, Nichole, Nicole etc etc.

This is how I see it... It's your child and you have the right to name it whatever you want. If you like it, it doesn't matter if anyone else does or not. It's special to you and that's what counts. I'm currently expecting and not sure the gender yet, but if it's a boy, we already have a name picked out. I'm pretty sure not many people will approve, and to be honest, we really don't give a crap lol. I think it's a gorgeous name and like I said if you like it and it means something to you, go with it!

I dislike Raelee a lot. The spelling is awful- extremely easy to misspell.

I do too! It's actually the only name I picked out of all three! I pretty much hate the name Beth(any) and I dislike Nichole as well... So Raelee is what I will be calling my daughter I bet. He felt bad since my family was left out and had to add Nichole for my sister - and so I got the three names I wanted that way as well as my Raelee.

It's nice of you to include your family, but yes, call her Raelee..it's really cute.

Raelee is a hotess, I'm sorry. Your child will groow up and be an adult some day and Bethany is a wonderful anme that will serve her well thorughout her entire life. Raelee sounds juvenile and will be incredibly dated and silly sounding byt he time she's grown and getting a career started.

What about something like Rachel or even Raina for Rae? Raina Bethany Nicole? Heck, even Raina Lee as a double first name would be better.

Raelee has a cute sound, but it's TOO cute, it won't age well and will just sound really silly when she's 40 - remember, people spend the majority of their lives as an adult, plan accordingly.

I wouldn't use Raelee as a first name, I agree that it's not the best name for an adult who is seeking employment. It deosn't change the fact that I do not like Bethany and while she is young will still call her Raelee though. I think it's a nice balance all around. She has two names that are traditional and functional if she would like to go by them and then she has one that is a little off the beaten path if she isn't a Bethany or Nichole type of girl. While I see your view points, I don't see how I am not 'planing accordingly' when she will have three names - and only go by the one she picks, both of the other names can be used in other forms even if she wants and still sound adult. Bethany; Beth, Betsy, B - Nichole; Nic, Nicolas, Chole.

I totally didn't get what you were saying at first - using it in the middle and using during childhood is a good idea. My SO went by his middle ubtil he was 18, then decided he wanted to go by his forst, which is super traditional and grown up. I didnt mean to come off nasty or anything - I just see a lot of people who don't think things through or think of their childs future. (sorry for typos, on my pho.e - super productive way to spend work hours  )

I thought there was a misunderstanding. My name is Kimberly Dawn and I have always wanted to have a different name. I hated being the 3rd or 5th Kimberly in the class, or the 3rd in my job and hated the name Dawn (Though the nickname Kimmy gets be pissed- thanks to Full House, lol). So that's why I thought I would give her a little something extra. Sometimes the traditional route isn't what the kid will actually like as they grow up. I go by Kim and deal with it, but I wish I had something a little different. My 1st is just going to have to tough it out like I did if she happens to feel the way I did, lol. (I understood what you were saying so it's no big deal   )
