I thought I was crazy for feeling that way already! Like I'm seriously feeling stuff I never felt until DD was full term!

I feel so broken. I'm not girly. I never have been. I don't like to dress up, wear heels, wear makeup, and I never had dolls or Barbies as a kid. I played with cars, played in the dirt, and dressed like a little boy as a kid. As I've gotten older, I dress like a girl, but I still don't enjoy dressing up (rarely).

My biggest fear in this pregnancy (other than medical issues, of course) was having a girl. Just the thought of having to raise a girl stressed me out. I found out last Wednesday (not even a week ago) that I'm having a girl. I cried, but I accepted it...I had to. And I've even started getting a little excited over it.

But now I just feel crushed. My mom and two best friends are planning my baby shower. They told me I had a week to come up with a theme for the shower. I've been stressing over this because I HATE pink and purple and pretty much anything frilly or girly.

Today, I FINALLY found a theme that I instantly LOVED. Pirate Princess! And the colors would be hot pink (not so bad) and black.

So I tell my mom and best friends what I came up with...these are the responses I got (this all took place through email)...

Friend: ... you serious? or is this just one of those out of nowhere feelings that you'll most likely rethink later?

I kinda ignored this one and said I was serious and then showed them some cakes I found that were cute to give them ideas as to what I mean. Their responses...
Mom: ok, seriously you need to stop! We have this under control. You DON’T need to give ALL suggestions and then know EXACTLY what we're doing along the way.
Friend: ... Skulls and crossbones?
Mom: LOL! I was kind of thinking that.
Friend: Magic fairies and death skulls spells sweet sweet baby girl. Lol.

My other friend hasn't responded at all yet, but it REALLY stung when my mom and her said that. It's crushed me because I've already had a hard time trying to deal with having a girl and being scared of not being able to be the kind of mother I need to be to her...and trying to find something that I'm comfortable with and also goes with a little girl's baby shower...I finally find something and get excited over it just to be completely and utterly crushed and pretty much laughed at. Maybe it's just my hormones, but I went in the room and cried. I'm still on the verge of crying.

So I responded to the last one saying to just do whatever they want then because I have no clue. This is what I got in response from my mom...
Mom: Seriously…that's pathetic…I never said you'd have no input, but you NEED to understand this is not yours to plan. You won't hate it (DIVA), so you need to step back.

This is literally the ONLY thing I've said about this stupid shower. They gave me a week to find a theme, I finally found one I liked and it felt like they crushed it...and are now calling me a diva.

It's just...I finally felt like I was starting to get comfortable with and excited for having a girl, I have my fear thrown right back in my face and now I'm just kinda depressed again.

Anyways...end of my little rant.

FINALLY agreed on a name we both like!!! Alaina Jean   Sorry I'm EXCITED!!

i'm sorry. i hope they realize how you're feeling and things turn around for you. don't worry, raising a girl will come to you. nothing wrong with a tomboy =]

I kind of know how you feel. I am a big tom boy and have no idea what to do with a girl . . It took me a week or so to become excited about it. although I haven't had as much negative feed back as you have. I'm sorry your family and friends aren't being supportive and it seems talking to them wont change their minds much. I didn't want any pink in her room so we decided on aqua and grey. . . my family and even my SO don't like it but they can kiss my butt for all I care. . . It's just not me. As for the shower. . . all you can do is register for the things you like and HOPE they get it (I hear no one looks at it and gets you what they want regardless) I hope the best of luck to you!
