stay at home mom HELP!!!

posted 17th Aug
I was supposed to return back to work from maternity leave on September 4th....BUT I no longer have a babysitter. My families health insurance policy was thru me....now that I am not returning back to work we wont have any as of October 1st. The family insurance plan thru my husbands employer is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. So can anyone help me on where to go next. I live in Michigan and here we have Medicaid...but with my husbands income I dont know if we will qualify. I am mainly concerned with having insurance for my children primarily. I just dont know where to go to get info. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure but you may be able to get Medicaid for just the children. Call & find out.

Look up cobra insurance, it's a program to extend your health insurance coverage. Here's a link:

They ALWAYS will provide insurance for the kids, unless you are like making bank lol

My kids have it and insurance through my husbands work.

Medicaid is still worth a try even if you think he makes too much still try and get it, and theres also health insurance thats cheaper that may just cover emergencies, we went without insurance for awhile and I would just take DS to urgent care if he was really sick it was only 50 dollars and they would give him medicine for free, Daycare if very expensive but if you can find a cheap one I suppose thats good

Daycare would be too expensive an I would be working just to pay for daycare.

What county do you live in?

Look up your county's DHS (department of human services)
they have packets and workers there to help you with whatever you need to get.

How do I go about getting info for Medicaid. Is there a website or do I need to go to a social service office?

maybe look into individual plan for you and your husband. I know here when I was without insurance I went through Blue Cross Blue Shield and paid like 100.00 a month for a 500 deductible with 35 copay for myself. You can see if your kids will qualify for medicaid and if not they should have another program that you pay so much a year (here it is called Blue Cross All kids). I would much rather have insurance with a deductible in case of a wreck or something horrible so I wasn't left with thousands of dollars in medical debt. (Look up plans with Blue cross, United Healthcare, Cigna, Humana, etc)

well.. you'd be working to provide insurance to your family.

what did you do that doesn't pay more than daycare for 1 child??

call your car insurance company. I know state farm offers different health insurance plans.

your state should have a website and you can apply for everyone on there (or at least that is how my sister did hers)
