Nanny cams at daycare and school. Would you?

Put a nanny cam button on your childrens shirts for the early years in school? I was just wanting a movie ( i dont know why I always set myself up for these feelings) about a baby sitter and her husband molesting about 50 kids!

I have this massive fear of that happening to my kids. Before I made my choice to homeschool (for various school system reasons) I already had registered my daughter into pre k and shes starting this fall. Its only for 4 hours a day. Im so scared of something happening. Shes almost 4!

Do you think its extreme to attach a nanny cam to your child via pin or something small?. The way technology works these days you can watch right from your iphone!

They don't allow cameras in school because other children than yours will be on the footage. It's all about privacy laws.

I think it's a little extreme imo. It's horrible that those thins happen, but have you explained to your daughter that no one is allowed to touch her and that if she's uncomfortable she shouldn't be afraid to tell someone? They're never too young to hear that their personal space is very important; you don't have to go into details as to why.

Wouldnt your daughter tell you if something happened? I know my son would, hes a little nark at the littlets things. Have a talk to her maybe and just tell her whats OK and whats not.. I think she will be fine though

I think it is a little extreme. Preparing your child ahead of time could possibly prevent or at least stop these things early on before something could happen. If you start now, how far are you willing to take it? It just doesn't seem healthy to watch your kids every motion and moment at every waking hour of the day while they are away from you.

It's illegal for you to do that, but you can join PTA and petition for them to install security cameras, assuming you'd find the money in the budget and had good reason...which you probably wouldn't for either of those specifications.

I would imagine all parents would want to be able to check in on their kids! Here in the NY area the past few months there has been an eruption of teachers getting caught for molesting kids for 7 years and such. Its getting kind of crazy!

We did start discussing how no one should be touching those parts and Only mom and grandma will wash there and thats it (dad isnt comfortable with the bathing part, he will just supervise and I will go in and wash them). Its just so scary. What worries me a lot is the bathroom part!

No I wouldn't but I would do a lot of research on the daycare before hand.

I would hope she would. Im a SAHM, kids are hardly out of the family circle. We have a very close family too. So she hasnt experienced life really away from what she knows. There are a lot of cases where kids never talk. We talk about everything but who knows. I dont want to like watch her every move. Just peek!

In all honesty what privacy do children need in school except for rest room and locker room use where that would be off limit. I dont want to watch her every move but I think a parent should have a right to check in while at work to see how things are coming along. Im on it! Haha Our first meeting is at the end of this month. Its a parent cooperative school so all the parents have to be involved when possible

It's just the law at this time. Does a class of kindergartner's really have anything that secretive going on? No but everyone may not agree to some stranger watching their kid. Could be a perv or something out there. I did see the video about the older kid beating up the younger ones, but I think that is negligence on the daycares part. They knew that kid had a problem to begin with and put him with those kids. And ignored when the younger children started crying.
But even with having video monitoring, like if it were in every class room or something the people that wanted to do those things would find ways around it. I'm sure the teachers that were caught doing those things weren't doing it in front of the entire class room.

I wouldn't want anyone having a camera there that wasn't very thoroughly safe and I knew about. It would worry me that an attacker could use that to his advantage to learn about the inside of the school, etc if he could hack into the computer (or she).

Yeah, I definitely worry about stuff like that happening, and I like the idea of having cameras that are secure and parents can log in to view the class room... but I couldn't just attach a nanny cam to my kids shirt.

I don't think you're overreacting at all. My son is in Pre K and he has autism. He has no way to tell us if something were to happen at school and there is a case right now of someone working for a Pre K right by my house that is being charged with molesting children. Children are defenseless. Even if you think they're telling you everything they might not be able to. And even if they seem to tell you everything people who do these kinds of things threaten children and tell them they'll hurt their family members if they tell. I don't think anything should be assumed with children because there are too many adults who are really bad and know how to take advantage of kids.

Its ok to worry about your kids but honestly if I found out that the parents of one of the other kids at DS's daycare had put a hidden camera on their kid I would do my nut. Those cameras tape everything and how do you know that the streaming software you're using is safe? I can't imagine that for this purpose someone would pay thousands of dollars for encryption software, so that means that anyone with a wifi connection could potentially hack into the system. And if its streaming onto a website for you to view then that could potentially be hacked as well.
Seriously if you're so enormously concerned to the point where you're thinking of putting hidden cameras in your kids clothing maybe you should just keep them home.
