Potty Trained

posted 17th Aug
How long did it take your SN child to be potty trained? Even just pee? LO will be 3 next month and is no where near being ready. He has gone pee a few times in the past.. but not consistent and it has been months. I know all kids are different. I'm just wondering when you were able to climb that small mountain and how long before completely done? Thank you!

Cylus is just speech and was developmentally delayed. He didn't get PT'd until this summer so after he was 3!

Speech delay and developmental delay.. Does that include physical delays? I'm sorry for so many questions... I can't really find/get information on it. Thank you for your reply too. I hope he can be potty trained sometime in the 3's.

Just like cognitively and then when he broke his femur it held him back some. He is still speech delayed. Honestly what I did was let him run around naked and if he couldn't do it that day waited again and it was just trial and error.

That's what I've been doing. Trying to do. He has sensory stuff and likes to wear a diaper or he cries. But then on the 'good days' he will go diaper less and wear undies. He will go back and forth between me and the potty but not be able to go and as soon as he gives up and knows he needs to pee or poo he will get over it and stand and pee on the carpet in his undies. And I know he feels terrible. It's like all his muscles and coordination and everything is off and he can't control it. That;s what I was trying to say. It took a lot to get that out.

That's okay. It's rare for SN children to be potty trained early. That's why I was like WHOA yay! lol No biggy. And BTW 25 months is amazing anyway.

My son doesn't have any issues that we know of and he won't poop in the potty. He is 3 1/2 and I am tired of diapers. Sorry I don't have any advice for you, I just want you to know you are not alone on the fighting with potty training. I hope you find something that works!

Just give him some time!! REmember it takes time to potty train and you can't rush it. Have you tried putting undies on under a diaper? It still gives him security but yet he can pt some too

not a problem! I mean it really would be like wearing a diaper but you can still work with him on it. : )
