2 vessel umbilical cord?!

Has anybody been diagnosed with a 2 vessel cord? More importantly, I would like to know the outcome of their child. I know there could be issues, but thats the key word: COULD! Im worried....

isnt that normal??? my doc said my babies cord has two. thought it was normal.

No, I was told it COULD cause problems. Most comman is Kidney.

Averie had a 2 vess. umb. cord. She is fine. They scanned the blood flow everyother week. And at 34 weeks, they found out it was pushing blood one was towards the placenta, and killing it. I had an emergency c-sec, and she also had a knot in her cord. It was a short cord. (shorter than most) Just make sure they check the blood flow in it regulary.
My sister also has one with the baby shes carrying now.

Averie, has Kidney reflux. dont know if its from that, but it is heridity. Her great aunt had it and had one of her kidneys removed. they also scanned the fluid to make sure she had enough and she was peeing. She is slowly growing out of her reflux.

Well I googled it and found out that if two are found they will automatically look for abnormalities in the anatomy. If they dont find anything at 20 weeks wioth 2 vessels then nothing is likely to develop after that.

are you talking about 1 artery and 1 vein??? because a normal one is 2 arteries 1 vein as far as i know because i only have 1 arterty and 1 vein i am missing one..i was told it is not normal but it is common....i am worried too  

The baby's umbilical cord usually has 3 blood vessels. 2 arteries and 1 vein. The vein is our blood to them, and the arteries are the blood returning from the baby to the placenta.
Normally with 2 blood vessels your health care provider will be concerned with abnormalities, defects and the sort. Because it usually is a sign of an abnormality. Please understand that having 2 vessels is rare but it does happen. But at the same time be aware that your baby can be born just fine with 2 blood vessels. Don't stress about the blood vessels. Talk to your health care provider and tell them your concerns. Also know that there are plenty of health care websites about 2 vessel umbilical cords.

It is a sign of Downs. But they can do an amnio to find results.

I feel better knowing that Avery is fine. It just sucks knowing that I most likely wont know about the kidney, heart issues untill later. I have my 20 week ultrasound at 20 weeks so I'll be able to know of any "defect" since its the anatomy ultrasound. Either way, you always expect to have a "perfect" pregnancy with NO complications. My doctor told me She's treating 3 other patients with the two vessel, and out of her whole 12 years in practice, she's NEVER seen a complication. BUT THE DAMN WEBSITES SCARE YOU INTO THINKING THE WORST!!! lol...she told me to STAY OFF the internet.

Ok I found out that Averie had a 2 vess. cord and she had Kidney reflux at 20 weeks. And then I would go in, 3-4 times a month to have my fluid checked make sure she was peeing, and then the blood flow in her cord checked out too. at 28 weeks I started having weekly NST's. Good luck to you.
And how far are you now?!

As long as your doctor knows about it and watches things closely I don't think you will have any problems.
