Once I went over due everyone kept telling me that Rowan was waiting for Mother's Day to be born so he'd have a holiday like his brother. I'd just roll my eyes, but apparently they were right.
At about 4:30am Sunday morning I awoke to what I thought was another braxton hicks contraction, but when I went to move I realized that my water had broken. I called labor and delivery and they told me to head in. It was about 5:40am when we arrived at the hospital after dropping a very excited Justan off with an equally excited Grandma.
I was 4cm dialated and having contractions every 3 minutes, so after being on the monitors for 15 minutes they let me get in the tub. My contractions started to become really intense and then the pain moved into my back and wouldn't leave. So I took a shot of newban(sp?) and what a relief. It didn't take the pain away, but it did take the rdge off. And about a half hour after the shot I was ready to push. I don't think the midwife and nurse took me seriously at first since the last time they checked I was still at 4cm and I'd only been there for about 3 hours. So they told me to go ahead and push if thats what I felt like. Of course then the midwife looked down and realized she could see the head. So she had my husband lift me out of the water (the hospital no longer allows you to give birth in the water) and within 3 more pushes Rowan was out at 8:53 am. Then the midwife was really shocked, Rowan came out "sunnyside up" (he was facing the ceiling, which is why I was having so much pain in my back) The midwife imformed us that having an "op" baby really slows labor down, but I was only in labor for 4 1/2 hrs!! If I have a third I probally won't even make it to the hospital...lol.
Rowan weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 8ozs and was 20 1/2 inches long. He has quite a set of lungs on him as well.
