Endocrinologists

Has anyones child ever been referred to a Endocrinologists?
What was the experience?
What was the outcome?

I have a 3 1/2 year old who is very small. We have never really been to concerned with him "not growing" but the older he gets the more he is at a stand still. He is still wearing 12-18 month clothes and in a years time he has gained only .1 pounds. He hasnt really had a growth spurt and hasnt made much progress in growth. Our family Dr has referred us to an Endocrinologists ( more for my husbands piece of mind, He is very concerned with our sons growth) Although our family Dr thinks that he is just going to be genetically a small child, he said it would give us a for certain answer whether or not there truly is a concern.

So if anyone can share their experiences with me, Id greatly appreciate it.

Are you and your husband on the shorter side? This happened to my inlaw's child. Turns out that she was petite because they were.

Im 5"6 and average built.
DH is 5 11 and very slender.
But My dads side is rather small built. That is why I think he is just going to be a petite kid. But we are more concerned with his lack of eating and he really isnt growing at all.

Today I am starting a log of his intake of food and such. To maybe try to pinpoint a pattern or something,

DD has seen an endocrinologist since she was 6mos old. It took about 6 mos to come to a diagnosis, but once we had one she was started on medicine. The first and many visits following included a lot of questions, physical exams and quite a bit of blood work.

We've had a decent experience with them. She has hashimoto's hypothyroidism. It's being treated and we go to the endocrinologist every 3-4mos for blood work, exam and to see the dietitian.

I hope you have a good experience. Good luck to you.

We go to an endo but only because my son is a type one diabetic. They're awesome. Going for our three month appt on Thursday. He's fairly short as well but I'm 5'1" and his dad is 5'7". They say he's on track, just a tad small but look at us. *shoulder shrug* I'm not sure what you're expecting to go through. Maybe some tests? We saw ours from the ER b/c our sons blood sugar was so high (1300's), all tests were ran in the hospital and explained to us later. So as for just scheduling a visit...I honestly can't say. I know they will weigh and measure at least. Beyond that, I don't know. I can't even tell you not to stress about it b/c how can you not? As parents we will always worry about our babies. No matter how old they are.

I do wish you and your family luck and hope for the best. <3

we go for congenital hypothyroid, its not really that big of deal. we go every 3 months right now with labs every 2 weeks. he takes a pill a day. its one of our "easier" fixes for DS lol eventually he will need a MRI and Tu&S but not till he is at least 3.
