I honestly think it should be left up to the child to decide once they get older and I see it as borderline mutilation.

I'm not paying hundreds of dollars out of pocket (insurance doesn't cover unnecessary procedure) for someone to slice off a part of my infant's body that is natural. Seems absurd.

Where I'm from boys that have had it done are generally thought of as being weird and sometimes teased about it. So it's the opposite of the US pretty much.

They might not remember it, but it definitely hurts.

Most people can't stand getting a paper cut. Now imagine it's your penis instead of your finger.

lol - but I'm just saying though.. For those doing it for "cosmetic" reasons.. Who the hell is going to be looking @ your child's genetalia, critiqueing it..?? The # of parents making the choice NOT to circumsize is on the rise.. Honestly I think it's be about 50/50..

Quoting ~*~HautéMama~*~:  I still don't understand the "lowers risk for STDS and cancer" crap.. 1.) Wear a condom! 2.) Get regular yearly checkups with your urologist! So hard....”

Indeed.

In my opinion, touting the "fact" that it lowers the risk of STD just encourages people to have unprotected sex, because they feel safer doing so. The safest thing is using a condom. Chances are you're still going to get the HIV, circumcized or not if you do it without a condom with someone who has it.

Yeah, the baby screamed from the moment the knife touched him. The only ones I've watched where the baby stops crying is when he's been screaming so hard that he can't seem to cry anymore. I've read things that say they sometimes go into a state of shock and don't cry or stop crying, but who knows.

I'd love for my parents to have had some work done on me when I was a baby. I had a big ass smile, big ears, and I was bald til I was three.

long story short. I'm sure it hurts. I don't know anyone that remembers doing the pain. the hubby got it done, my brother got it done, and my kid is getting it done. I'll also whoop his ass when he gets in trouble and I hope that hurts too. I definitely wouldn't wait til he was older. That'd hurt way worse.

Everyone has different views on it. I'm not saying your views are wrong, they just aren't mine.

Well I have also heard that the biggest reason they cry when they strap them down, which is necessary, that usually pissed them off a lot!! But you know each to his own, I prefer to have it done to my son. BTW My son didnt even seem to notice anything, only prob they had with him was as soon as they got him all prepped, he pee'd on everything and they had to re-sterlize everything, it actually was very funny.

And I know everyone is talking about the pain part of it, If you never let anyone do anything to your child that was going to hurt for a minute they wouldn't get shots, blood checked, teeth pulled ect.

Yes, but talking about it might help people change their minds (both ways) from doing something that they might regret later.

Many people don't research it before they decide what to do. One year ago, I thought for sure my son would be circumsized. He's not.

The difference is, those things are necessary. Getting circumsized is not.

My cousin had his done when he was 6 for medical reasons. He told me that he remembered everything and still vividly remembers how painful it was. If I have another son yes I would get him circumcised, too. To each it's own.

Yes but those things are pretty NECESSARY for one's health.. Taking off a part of the body seems a little crucial and I like to save my children from pain as much as humanly possible.. Thus why I'm not even getting my daughter's ears pierced.. Everyone always asks me about that..

Perhaps you'd like to volunteer getting a piece of your body cut off?
