re: Is it really all that serious

if i ever have a son i would get it done....not to say boys are dirty, hehe, but when they are very young sometimes they dont really wash as well as they should and thats not something u can just rub some soap on and be done with...they have to pull the skin back and all that mess...but my husband is Jewish so i figure it would be done for religious reasons anyways

he does it on his own honestly.. And you really shouldn't try and force it back yourself either or you risk tearing it and infection.. Some boys don't fully retract until 6-10 years old.. Boys are so interested in it though and mine is always toying around with his when he's naked.. He's 5 now and it's JUST finally retracted all the way so we do help him pull it back a bit to wash it off @ bath time..

But I wouldn't be worried about being uncircumsized giving higher risk to STD's.. I think that's ignorant.. A guy can ALWAYS contract a STD if he's not wearing a condom! And yes, my hubby thinks it's a little high maintenance to keep his so clean but I have to be meticulous about my vagina don't I!? It takes all of 5 seconds to wash the dang thing..

And like I said, if a girl is teasing him about it - she's not the kind of girl he should be sleeping with anyway...

As it's a personal decision, many people will have their own medical reasons to do so, but the medical community in general does not believe there is medical benefit to do so, except in specific cases. It is considered a cosmetic procedure generally.

i had my son circumcised and it was for cosmetic reasons only. His father is circumcised and he wanted his son to be as well.

I researched it and found that the that I found mostly used scare tactics to further their beliefs than acctual medical proof. I would research it and talk to other mothers who chose to have it done on their sons. You need both sides in orders to make an informed choice. I saw alot of things that had me freaking out, but then I got on here and asked other women about their choice to do it or not to do it and what I found was very different experiences than what I saw on the internet. Research it...but be very careful and openminded because like I said...some things I found were just scare tactics by groups that are against it...but on here found nobody (out of those that chose to have it done) that shared the same experiences that the sites would lead you to believe is a constant. There are pros and cons to everything and it is a largely personal preference. Like if the dad isn't, then you may choose not to have it done. My bf is, so we will have it done.

Why do we bother teaching our children that it's ok to be different and that when they are different, they are special, but then when it comes to something like this, people choose to have a medical procedure done on someone else so that they don't have to be different?

Our deciding factor was that NO MAJOR MEDICAL ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDS IT!!! How is that a scare tactic?

It's really not all that serious, lol. There's no real medical reason to get it done. Mainly, it's a personal choice. We got it done for religious reasons but if it weren't for there we probably wouldn't have.

I had my son circumcized, he is 10 now, Its really not that big of a deal as far as the procedure, I def. am getting this one done to, I do think its good for medical reasons, My father had to have his done at 24, was VERY painful for him. He had issues, was in military when he had it done.

Now I have been with both, cut and uncut men. As far as sex goes, I didnt notice a difference at all, I even asked my mom, who had my dad before and after, she said she didn't noticea differance either.

If you don't have it done now, you need to make SURE you teach your son how to clean it and EVEN then they run the risk of having problems. I had a friend that didn't have it done to her son, he ended up having to have it done at 6, which at that age was very tramatic to him. Thing is, if you do it now, child will never know nor remember it. Also just little FYI, I don't think they have full feeling in it till older, I say that cause after seeing how my son pulled and yanked on his as a baby and toddler, never seemed to hurt him, it hurt me to watch!!So I assumed didn't hurt him. Also my son didn't even cry when they did his, didn't seem to bother him at all.

im going on my 5th boy.. and all of them have it done.. not for looks but just for hygiene. it also lowers the risk of std's and some cancers. even tho theres NO real Medical reason why it has to be done.. just those 2 reasons alone was good enough for me. Not like it hurts the lil guy.. they do it a day/2 after birth.. they dont remember it. heals within a week.

I'm not getting my son circumsized, mainly for cosmetic reasons as well as health ones.

For all of those who say they did it for "cosmetic reasons", be thankful that your mother didn't snip off one of YOUR body parts because she thought it was unattractive.

Oh and P.S, they DO feel pain, just because they are newborns doesn't mean it hurts less. Watching the procedure be performed was enough to persuade me of just how unnecessary and traumatic it truly is.

Oh yeah. I've always had a little extra meat around my midsection. I wish my mom would have just gotten liposuction for me when I was a baby so I wouldn't have felt anything.

I still don't understand the "lowers risk for STDS and cancer" crap.. 1.) Wear a condom! 2.) Get regular yearly checkups with your urologist! So hard....
