no parental leave in U.S.

posted 16th Aug
You ladies seriously need to start writing letters to Obama and telling him the U.S. needs to jump into the 21st century and provide decent maternity leave options for mothers! I can't believe that a developed country expects women to go back to work after 6-9 weeks! In Canada, England and Australia we get one year. In Europe they get between one and three years! It is just plain mean to force working families to send thieir babies into daycare at 6 weeks!

It depends on your job, and I think on the state as well. My mom is an elementary school teacher in MA and I'm pretty sure she got a year when she had my sister and I

In some fields I think you can take longer, but it's all unpaid leave. I've heard of only a very few places here that have paid maternity leave. It's pretty sucky. I remember the first time I ever saw the chart on wikipedia that lists minimum standards for parental leave by country. It made me sad to be here lol

I am assuming that in your country the government pays for you to be on leave for a year or your employer?

As a hiring manager, it would make me much likely to hire women into important positions if i knew they'd be able to take a year off.

So since they can't, does that make you less likely? Discrimination right there lol

I'm from Enfield FYI....

But, I think 6 weeks is fine being paid for, but anything longer should be without pay.

If anything, I think men should be able to get the same amount of time off as the woman with pay (6 weeks).
