Can you go BACK in progress?

Long story short, it seems I have gone back in dilation and which station I am at... of course this could be an error from one of the examiners... but still, can you go BACK in progress or just keep moving forward?

On May 8th I was 2 cm, 60% effaced and at station -1... this news was very exciting especially since 5 days before I was 0 cm, 50% effaced and -2!

Yesterday, I was "between" 1 and 2 cm, 60% effaced and at station -2! I honestly was so pissed because I have been cramping like crazy and figured I would be AT LEAST another 10-20% more effaced, but of course, I am wrong.

I know, all in good time, but seriously, I am going nuts!! Haha.

Any thoughts on this??!

Different people (unfortunatly)

I was told by the nurse that teaches our childbirth class that you can't go backward. Assuming she is correct, someone must have not measured you corretly.

Thank You, I appreciate it! I pray I didn't go back in progress, that would make me even more anxious! Haha.

one of the examiners must not be hitting it just right.. because once you open and start thining.. your not gonna close back up . go with your Dr if they check you more often then anyone else. and -1 and -2 doesnt seem like alot of diffence in station but the way the baby presses down at these stations could have alot of say how effaced you are too..

I know what you mean! That wouldn't be fair if you could go backward!

Wow, I'm going through the same thing, but I had two different people check me, and that's probably why.
However, my baby was engaged, but he floated back up!  

My aunt went from 7 cm back to3 cm. Her dr had never seen that before. She ended up having a c-section.

A friend of mine that had her baby in March went "backward" I don't remember from what to what but it was a drastic change (she was already in the hospital in labor when this happened)... weird, and I've never heard of it, but apparently it can happen!!!

Yes you can go backwards!!It is very common, BTW what about twins born vaginally, sometimes the cervix closes back up and they have to wait to re-dialate, some twins are even born hours to days apart.

in this case it may be due to two different people checking you... but my sister did go "backwards" she started dialating was 2-3cm they sent her home from the hospital, then she went home, laid on the bed, and in a few minutes her water broke... back to the hospital still at 3cm, then 2hrs into it she went to 4-5cm, about 6hrs later, 3 attempts of an epidural and she was still feeling everything, on pitocin... when the doctor checked her they said only 3cm, her cervix was swelling up and closing so they did and emergency csection

This could occur if you push before you are supposed too.

u can go backwards if u just got stripped and ur body wasnt ready to be that dialated then it willclose up a little. thats what my dr said
