EXACTLY!! Makes no sense huh? If that would've been a civilian he would have been ticketed and arrested on the spot. Not this hr-long moral delima. Hell if it would've been the cops cousin or brother I'll bet you he would've arrested him., but cause it was his "brother in blue" he let him go. UGH, makes me sick.

I watched it too!! Its ridiclous!! They should be held to a higher standard I think!!

Course I don't trust cops at all!! I have had to call them for help before and they are usually just arrorgent ass holes!!! And I don't like the fact you invite them into your house then they disrespect you!! And hold thier hand on thier gun/! Last time I had any dealings with them, they came to my mom's b/f, house, stupid reason, not for me or anything, I actually had to be the peacemaker, BUT anyways, They were SUPER RUDE to my mom's b/f grandson, for just walking into his own house!! I jumped their ass, they both had thier hands resting on their guns, and I told them to take their damn hands off them, that was unecessary and Just cause they were cops didn't mean I trusted them with gun, only person I trust with a gun is me!!! Needless to say the one that I was talking to , his partner asked him to step outside, he was just trying to argue with me and not helping!! They think they are GOD around here!!

When it comes do driving under the influence no one should be excused.
I know several people that i have had to personally go pick up in the same situation. They were lucky they didn't kill themselves or someone else.
Fact of the matter is with some people it will scare you to the point you wouldn't do it again, most everyone else, it does not.
My husband has a relative that is a police office & head of the swat team. This happened to him. He was pulled over and drunk. They did not allow him to get away with it. I do feel for him, but he has to set an example.
He didn't lose his job or anything to that nature, but he was (for the most part)treated like any other DUI.

Sorry but he should have!! IDK how it is there, but here a DWI is a felony!! I don't think a felon should be a cop!!

Well, I don't think he should lose his job. I don't think anyone should lose thier job. People make mistakes. Ihave Dr. friend that also got a DUI, should he not be able to practice medicine?
It is very shamful to get a DUI to begin with ...taking someone's source of income it a little harsh. Now if someone had been injured. and /or died that is another story.

Sorry, I think I read something wrong. Were the cops in their own cars or in cop cars? Not that it makes it any better, I was just wondering.

I think depends on what your job is. If a dr is found to be practing while drunk then yes, they should loose their job. But still I just don't thinka cop should be a convicted felon. THey are supposed to enforce the law, so they should be held to a higher standard, especially someone in that high of a position.

I dont know, I think that depends on the job. I worked in the trucking industry for a long time doing the hiring. We would hire people with one DWI but it had to be over three years old and they could not have more than one, ever. I think if it is your job to drive, then you should not have a habit of driving drunk. One time, you learn your lesson. After that, its your own irresponsibility and you deal with the consequences.

Not only should they get the same punishments as a civilian, it should also threaten their job.
I believe, at least to some extent, police officers should be held to an even higher standard.

I think for a first offense an unpaid suspension for as long as your DL would be suspended would be reasonable.

Even when they DRIVE for a living? It is a well known fact that most DWI offenders have done it more than once. And by stating that "IF" someone had been injured or worse THEN it's another story? Why not prevent that from happening in the first place?

I'm sorry, but officers of THE LAW should abide by the law that they "protect" and set an example.

My half sister had 3 DWIs and was a firefighter. They fired her after the third, and she deserved it. It may have been her means of income, but nobody should drink and drive. That includes police officers. I think they should be fired after the first incident. It is NOT okay.

I didn't see this when I replied, but I do think that this is reasonable.

First offense is one thing. Two or three is not acceptable. Especially if they drive for a living.
I am all about prevention. I have breathalyzers in both of my cars...not b/c I am lush, but because one might not think they are "leagally drunk" after 1-2 drinks, but chances are, you are at.08. This allows us to stop, relax, and drink some water or take a cab if necessary.
I guess I look at it in another perspective. Just think, they have a first offense DUI, get fired b/c of it. What do you think they are going to do? I think a reasonable human being would probably be a bit on the depressed side and go out and get tanked and really hurt someone. I just see that "I've lost everything anyway" happening in a lot of people. JMO
