Loss of hair

I had my baby 4-12-08 and i noticed a nickel size bald spot right in the top of my head, like if I part my hair in the middle you see it, there are no hairs at all. Has that happened to anyone, I know hair loss is common because of the hormones but a complete bald spot....is it something to worry about??? I noticed this about 3 weeks after the delivery. Thanks

When you have a ""bald patch" like what you're describing it's called alopecia areata. It's nothing to worry about.It is most likely due to the stresses of pregnancy and labor & delivery. Your hair has three cycles....resting, growing, and shedding. After "trauma/stress" trigger something like this, it can take 6-18 months for it to be "normal" again. Everyone's body reacts and rebounds differently. If you go to see a dermatologist they can talk to you a little more about it and suggest treatment to try and help speed up the progress. In most cases at our office, we can inject the area with cortisone and see the person back about every 3-4 weeks to check on progress. Most likely though, with time, the hair will come back in on its own. It just takes time and patience. Hope that helps a little.

Wow thanks for the info. I was worried and well i'm gonna see my doc about it anyway but its good to hear some suggestions and answers like yours
