scheduled induction!

I went to what I thought was going to be a normal OB appointment this morning. I'm 38 weeks & 5 days and was supposed to be due on the 26th. The nurse took my blood pressure and it was at 134/91, which is somewhat high. However, my blood pressure fluctuates all the time so they just told me to relax. My doctor came in not too long after, talked to me about things, checked my cervix (I progressed from 2CM to 3.5, almost 4CM since the last time she saw me) & stripped my membranes (which surprisingly hurt pretty bad). She noticed my high blood pressure & decided to check it again. It went all the way up to 144/101. She was really concerned, so she checked it one more time, and it was the same. Then she had the nurse come back in to check it manually. She checked it about 4 times & all 4 times, it stayed at 144/100.

They sent me straight up to L&D so they could monitor my blood pressure for a while. I swear, the baby knows when I'm there because he always makes me look like the girl who cried wolf. I'd gone down there when I had bad contractions, but as soon as they put the monitors on me, the contractions just completely stopped. Today, I went up because of high blood pressure (which was checked about 6 times), but as soon as they settled me in, it dropped all the way down to 139/83.

There was an ultrasound machine in my room & the nurse told me it was there because the midwife on duty wanted to make sure that the baby had enough fluid surrounding him. She checked & there was more than enough fluid in there. It was so exciting being able to see him again because I haven't seen him since I got the ultrasound telling me I was having a boy! He's gotten so big and he's gorgeous already.

Anyway, they diagnosed me with gestational hypertension & decided to induce me this Monday! They said 39 weeks is the ideal week for any baby to come out, and I'll be exactly 39 weeks on Monday. I'm a bit disappointed I wasn't able to make it all the way to 40 & having to be induced, but if this is what's needed, then so be it. I'm extremely, extremely excited! I don't know what I'm going to do with myself for the rest of the weekend.  

dont worry about making it to 40 weeks. 39 is full term, and pregancy induced hypertension, is an imporatant thing to take into consideration. Theres just no point in putting you on medication this late in the game, and delivery is the best cure for it. i was sent to l&d twice after a high bp at the drs office, and they say it happens to ladies all the time. its always much higher at the office. good luck, and enjoy your last weekend pregnant!

I get induced on tuesday but its only because she refuses to come on her own lol

yay! inductions are so nice. a million times more relaxed than going into labor naturally. IF I ever have another child, I will plan to be induced.

Oh, a co worker of mine is also getting induced on Monday. I guess it's a good day for babies!!!

Thank you all for your replies! I'm moresorelieved over the inductionbecause nowI knowthe actual date he's comingas opposed to thinking, "Well, he should be here on the26th... buthe could also come a week later." However, when I didn't know when he was coming, I just wanted him out. Now that I know he'll be here in two days, I want tokeep him in!
