Hi! I am Lucie. I am expecting my first baby and I am very thrilled!

I am actually being induced at 10pm tonight! My due date is/was August 9th! Still no baby..and no progress. We have a stubborn little monkey already (: we could never find out the sex and he/she doesn't want to come on time (:

I was looking up some stuff and came across this so decided to join!

I am very nervous to be induced tonight! I have no idea what to expect..
I have a few quetsions if anyone is up to help?
- How bad does labor actually hurt?
- How do they go about induction?
- Any other advice you could offer going into this tonight?

Thanks! and I hope to make friends with some of you all!

My best words of advice would be to go in there with an open mind, and don't let anyone pressure you into ANYTHING you aren't comfortable with.

Labor hurts, but it's not something you can't over come and "conquer" it's like your worst period x100+1.

Inductions? I loved mine.

And if you want to go drug free you can do it. I Had two kids med free one induction on spontaneous.

Best of luck!

Hey! Welcome to BG! Congrats on the lil one. Not gonna lie, labor hurts like hell. Some prefer an epidural but I couldn't bring myself to get one. When they induce the give you a suppository to thin out your cervix, break your water and give u pitocin to start your contractions. While you're in labor don't think about the pain... think about the end result. Hope everything goes well and update us after your baby is born! :-)

well usually when you're induced at night they will insert cervadil into your vagina to ripen your cervix.

and then in the morning they start you on pitocin that should cause contractions and make you go into labor.

and i'm thinking since this is your first time and you are getting induced that your doctor should have explained everything to you at your visit!good luck

Labor sucks ass! I would get an Epidural if you can. I got an Epi with my son and it wasn't so bad but i wasn't able to get one with my daughter and by the time it came to push i was ripping the freaking Pitocin IV out of my arm it smurfing hurt. Well good luck to you

Welcome to BG!

I wasn't induced so I dunno about that, but labor hurts pretty bad. It's nothing you can't work through though. I did. If you're wanting to stay away from the epi then just go in with an open mind and positive attitude but if you end up needing it don't be disappointed. You'll do great. Goodluck!

Both of my kids were induced.. The first one was not pleasant.

First baby, started the process at 8 a.m. Monday morning March 3, 2004 (I was 18...).. They put stuff on my cervix to get it ready.. hooked me up to some pitocin.. had to lay flat on my back for half an hour for the cervix stuff.. had to do that a couple times.. had to walk around in between cervix things..

Then, there was lots and lots and lots of pain.. contractions didn't build up slowly and gradually like a normal labor.. they were sudden, erratic, intense.. and I couldn't get an epidural because I wasn't far enough along yet..

I was freaking out.. total panic attack.. (I have an anxiety disorder though, so maybe you won't panic).. I couldn't wrap my head around being in that much pain and having no way to stop it.

Then they gave me Demoral. I felt drunk and went to sleep.

I woke up a couple hours later when the contractions started to be horrific again.. I was totally panicking and freaking out because I didn't take the classes, so I didn't "know how to breathe" lol.. and everyone kept telling me to breathe.. and the nurses were being really mean to me (probably cuz I was acting like a big crybaby with no balls at all)..

Then, nurses had a shift change.. this awesome wonderful amazing nurse came in.. and she helped me sooo much that I'll never forget her.. They came in to give me the epidural and she helped me calm down and breathe and stop crying while they did it and she was really encouraging making me feel like it would be okay.

And once I got the epidural I was DETERMINED not to lose it so when they told me to push as hard as I could I did (they said if I didn't push good enough they'd take away my epidural). This caused me to rip.. which I didn't feel then, but certainly felt it later.. lol.. (get some Lanacane just in case).

And at the end of it all, it took 22 hours.. he was born at 5:15 a.m. on March 4, 2004.

That probably wasn't helpful.
Probably scared the smurf out of you.
Sorry. Honest.

Second baby was easy as hell though.. Got my epidural before I felt contractions.. pushed her out within five hours.. easy peasy.. no problems at all.

Advice: Don't panic (it doesn't help) & Get the epidural.
Good luck.

Thank you everyone so much! She explained a lot to me, I guess I just thought it would help (and it did) if I heard it from someone who actually went through it!

So thank you all so much! I know in the end it will all be worth it! As nervous as I am, I am still very excited!
