Quoting ~Lucie~:" Hi! I am Lucie. I am expecting my first baby and I am very thrilled! I am actually being induced at ... [snip!] ... - Any other advice you could offer going into this tonight? Thanks! and I hope to make friends with some of you all!"
Both of my kids were induced.. The first one was not pleasant.
First baby, started the process at 8 a.m. Monday morning March 3, 2004 (I was 18...).. They put stuff on my cervix to get it ready.. hooked me up to some pitocin.. had to lay flat on my back for half an hour for the cervix stuff.. had to do that a couple times.. had to walk around in between cervix things..
Then, there was lots and lots and lots of pain.. contractions didn't build up slowly and gradually like a normal labor.. they were sudden, erratic, intense.. and I couldn't get an epidural because I wasn't far enough along yet..
I was freaking out.. total panic attack.. (I have an anxiety disorder though, so maybe you won't panic).. I couldn't wrap my head around being in that much pain and having no way to stop it.
Then they gave me Demoral. I felt drunk and went to sleep.
I woke up a couple hours later when the contractions started to be horrific again.. I was totally panicking and freaking out because I didn't take the classes, so I didn't "know how to breathe" lol.. and everyone kept telling me to breathe.. and the nurses were being really mean to me (probably cuz I was acting like a big crybaby with no balls at all)..
Then, nurses had a shift change.. this awesome wonderful amazing nurse came in.. and she helped me sooo much that I'll never forget her.. They came in to give me the epidural and she helped me calm down and breathe and stop crying while they did it and she was really encouraging making me feel like it would be okay.
And once I got the epidural I was DETERMINED not to lose it so when they told me to push as hard as I could I did (they said if I didn't push good enough they'd take away my epidural). This caused me to rip.. which I didn't feel then, but certainly felt it later.. lol.. (get some Lanacane just in case).
And at the end of it all, it took 22 hours.. he was born at 5:15 a.m. on March 4, 2004.
That probably wasn't helpful.
Probably scared the smurf out of you.
Sorry. Honest.
Second baby was easy as hell though.. Got my epidural before I felt contractions.. pushed her out within five hours.. easy peasy.. no problems at all.
Advice: Don't panic (it doesn't help) & Get the epidural.
Good luck.
