[ breastfeeding question ]...

posted 17th May
ok so i used to be able to pump a 6oz bottle from both breast pretty easily about two times a day....

now, it takes me almost 30 min to pump just 4 oz from BOTH breasts
i dont know why my supply isdecreasing (if thats the problem), i mean...i breastfeed full time so its not like i suppliment with formula. i take my prenatals still and i eat regularly and all that like im supposed to. im not stressed or anything either

anyway, i was just wondering if they had any type of pills or vitamins or something that you can take that will increase milk production. this may be a retarded question...but i was just curious i guess.

i know there are other things you could do, such as drink a beer (yeast increases supply)..but i hate beer so i cant do that

any other ideas?

Sometimes your stressed and you just dont realize it. because nothing worse for bF moms.. then stress its the worse enemy us females will ever have. You can also try Drinking more fluids because even tho your eating right not enough fluids can do that. also making baby nurse more often will increase your milk after a couple days of doing that. if your already 6wks out.. and you decided to use the PILL/SHOT.. soemtimes the doses could be just high enough to slow your milk down. so Id try some of those and if no results to your liking.. call the DR.

at about 6 weeks you rmilk suppy slows down because your body now knows how much to produce for each feed for your baby

my ilk is just about gone and i try to pump heaps in a day like every 2 hours, and im lucky if i get 60mls, but i was tols today that cold and flu tablets dry up ur supply, cuz i had the flu the other week now i have a cold so i was advised to stay away form those, but just keep pumping and keep ur supply up

i had to start giving him formula, my my pedi said i did the right thing by it

yea i know, of course i wouldnt let her starve. i just pump SO much ALL day long bc i want her to only have breastmilk, but i guess its just not gonna work out for ALL her feedings. i may have to suppliment =/

well when i first tried him on formula i had him on Karicare Gold, but that made him constipated, so i switched to the pharmacies brand and that seems to be working good for him, when i run out of this tin i might go try another brand my MIL is bitching because i tried the cheapest stuff first, im not gonna go waste 30 odd dollars on a tin of formula he doesnt like or makes him consitpated and in alot of pain

Keep at it. your body will respond to baby's needs..if baby is content and gaining weight.. then maybe thats all the milk your baby wants your body to produce. and Thats Normal. your body does what baby wants and needs just like when you were preg. baby wanted room.. and you got fatter.. its basically the same concept. but when baby starts loosing weight and getting Cranky and not waking up for feedings.. formula might be the only back up. BUT dont give up because once you stop nursing its hard to get your body to respond and get milk production back up. even if formula subs are only temp needed while you work on building your supply back up then so be it.. YOUR still an AWESOME mom .. regardless if you nurse/bottlefeed. your mother instincts will tell you when you need to give up and try the other DREADED option.. Formulas not the best but if it comes to starving / eating that stuff.. then id eat IT . Good luck and Keep trying.. your baby will thank you for it

true..
wow i just realized that your from Australia. so maybe you guys have diff types of formula over there...but my pedi suggested Infimil w/ Iron. but giving too much iron to breastfed babies will cause bad constipation, so im too nervous to start her on that

I'm on an herbal lactation blend (pills)...fenugreek pills help too, and there are lactation teas out there. Pump your heart out too...even if next to nothing if coming out, it's supply in demand. Good luck!

My doctor prescribed Domperidome (or something like that) when I first started breastfeeding to help my milk suppy increase. It worked like a charm. But it's something you have to get prescribed by a doctor and it should only be used if other methods haven't worked (like pumping, feeding more often, etc.).

I take fenugreek pills and after 5 days, I had a lot more milk. You just have to take like 9 of them a day.
