My four legged babies have Parvo

posted 16th May
I know this is not baby related but my puppies have parvo.  Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do to help them other than the antibiotics the vet gave them. I can't believe they have it they have recieved three of their shots and only go out side to go potty and they still got it. Has anyone had a puppy that survived parvo? Please any advice would be appricated . My puppies are my babies to.

I worked at an animal hospital for awhile, and I know that puppies have a much higher survival rate than adults. Keep your dogs seperated or the bacteria will just go back and forth. If your dogs are under 6 months they will have a pretty good chance if you caught it early.

Oh. what kinds of dogs do you have, and how old are they.. I might be able to give you some breed specific tips based on that.

They are 15 weeks and are a golden retriver husky mix. They haven't had to have fluids under the skin yet but I have to give them pedialite every hour. Any help is appriaiated(spelling). It is so odd to see them laying still for more than an hour. When they tore up a piece of paper tonight I was actually happy about it. Who would of thought that would be the case.

I'm so sorry, I don't even know what it is... That sucks. I know the feeling, my cat wass cratching at his eye and i couldn't get him to stop, it swelled up relly big so we took him in. I cried. He's only 9 weeks old! he only wieghts two pounds! I have to give him antibiotics every 12 hours and eye drops ever 6. He hates it, little sqirt.

Make sure they are given PLENTY of water. (most dogs who die of parvo actually die of dehydration)
Keep them seperated on a bleachable surface. (any time dogs goes potty , clean with BLEACH)
Make sure you clean all of the old stools out of your yard. They can still carry parvo.
feed your dog a bland diet, such as Canine Prescription i/d (it will be gentler or there tummies and harden stools making them easier to clean)
sanitize everything your dogs have came into contact with over the last two weeks (or a time period of two weeks before symptoms began)
If I think of anything else I will add it.

It is good to hear of puppies surving. Everyone else I talked to only has bad news. The vet said that if they survive then they won't be able to get it again. That is a relief. I wish it was Monday though the vets office is closed on the weekends. He said he would come in to give them fluids if needed though. He said the shots don't seem to be working as well this year. He has already had several other dogs he vacinated come down with it. Not nearly as bad as if they had not had the shots though.

I hope your kitty gets better. I know it is so hard to watch them suffer. I can't imagine trying to give eye drops to a cat.
