Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease

Does anyone know anything about it? My neighbor's kid was diagnosed with it yesterday. It's supposed to be a virus that has about a six day incubation period and symptoms last up to 10 days. Kids can get it from, but adults usually don't catch it. BUT she said that pregnant women can pass it on to a newborn if they have been exposed to it. So this scares me since my OB said that she thinks I'll go into labor anyday and I've been around the neighbor's kids a lot. I've kept my distance since he started to get sick (even before knowing what it was) but I'm still concerned about it. My next appointment is Monday so I'll ask my Dr then what this could potentially mean... because I imagine just about any virus would be worse in a newborn.

i was exposed to it while preggy too. I was lucky and tested neg for it though. (I think its kinda like the chicken pox.?) You get a rash on your hands, feet and in you mouth like thrush. Id call your OB on call tom. and see what they think.

yes i have heard of this my son had it and i got it from him he had sores on his hands feet and mouth hence the hand foot and mouth disease. But i only got sores in my mouth and it was miserable! But i wasn't pregnant and have no idea about passing it to a newborn. but if i recall adults can get it but dont show symptoms and can still pass it on so it could be possible. I WOULD definetly talk to your doc about it. (sorry i wasn't much help to your actuall question lol)

What kind of test did they do?

Yes, my daughter just had this. My daughter had it on her legs and hands. We couldn't see into her mouth because she wouldn't open it up for us. But she had the bumps for one week. The doctors office told us not to have her around other children or anyone pregnant if at all possible.

Oh boy to be honest I cant remember. I want to say they swabbed my mouth, and took blood. Sorry!!
