Pre Eclampsia/ Preemie babies: whats your story?
posted 12th Aug '12
My DD and I nearly died from my battle with eclampsia. My protein level was nearly 600 and my bp stayed around 180/125 and to protect me, the doctors put me on Magnesium Sulfate and tried other bp med that were unsuccessful. The Mag was horrible! The worst medicine EVER bc Of the horrible side effects! I felt blistering hot all over, bad taste, crossed-eyed (almost 24hrs on Mag), constantly vomiting, and horrible headache. But the worse was that the med made my DD flat which was explained to me as she wasnt moving or practicing her breathing. My wonderful fiance was there the whole time and never left my side! Because they had tried to induce me, I wasnt effaced at all and only dialated to 1cm, my fiance had to make the decision for me to have a c section. I was so scared I do remember that. I remember being rushed to the OR and bitsand pieces. Thankfully I was coherent enough to hear/remember her cry and seeing her when my fiance held her to me. But when i saw her, I was extremely crossed-eyed and saw two of her. As they took her to the nursery and myself to recovery, it was discovered neither of us could maintain a reasonable body temperature. She was moved to NICU 1 and I had to have the bear hug! Eventually I made it into a room and without my baby beside me. I had her on a friday and the next day is completely gone to me and i didnt see my baby again til Sunday morning bc of that stupid magnesium!!! But i wasnt able to see well, walking was out of the question, and i couldnt go 20minwithout throwing up. Im so glad that ordeal is overnand it killed me to leaveher and go home alone. Miss Jerri-Lynn Mackenzae spent 2 weeks in NICU and is 3wks 2days todAy and she already rules the roost! Just remember Mamas, through Christ all thIngs are possible.

Sorry to hear you had to go through that! So happy you and your daughter are ok though! Congrats on her arrival!
I also had severe pre-e. I had horrible doctors though and it was my first time being pregnant, so I had no idea what pre-e even was. I had almost every sign in the book though. They would ask me why my BP was so high, there was protein in my urine (apparent they never checked my labs or ignored that too.) I even went to the hospital a few times after my right rib was hurting me severely.....come to find out that was a sign my liver was failing.
At 34.5 weeks, my pre-e made my placenta abrupt. I lost my daughter before I even got to the hospital. I spent the next 2 weeks fighting for my life. They actually told my husband to get my mom to Hawaii (Where we lived at the time.) from Oklahoma to spend her last minutes with me. Between my BP being high and being on the mag. sulfate for 2 weeks, I basically was blind for a month. Everything was really blurry. I couldn't even see my daughter when I held her either. Luckily, by the time her funeral came, I could see just enough to see how beutiful her and her ceremony was. Congrats again on your baby! Hopefully if you decide to have another baby, you will skip out on getting pre-e again! I have since had 2 sons since losing my daughter....thankfully without pre-e! Although my youngest was born at 28.1 weeks, but that is just because I have bad luck, not pre-e. lol He is a happy, healthy 3 year old though!

I had severe pre e almost died me and my daughter both. I had seizures cause my blood pressure was so high. I had a really good doc. She put me on bed rest a week before I had my LO but still 10 weeks early. I was rushed to the local hospital after passing out and seizing at home and the. Transported to a bigger hospital with a nicu. Put me on mag and was gonna try to hold me off for another 36 hours to give steroid shots bit didn't make it that long. Emergency c section after seizing for the third time. My precious baby was 2lb 11oz. I seen her the first time 2 days after she was born. Only from the nurses transferred me to a wc cause obviously I couldn't walk. No problems with bp and more. I have a happy and healthy 9 month old girl now. Stayin in the nicu for 7 weeks. Not even been sick since then!! God is amazing.

My pre e wasn't as severe, but I had the swelling, spots in one eye, high bp, and protein in my urine. I believe I was only given pitocin but really can't remember. I was induced 7 weeks early and my doctor was trying to let me have a natural labor and delivery, but my daughter wasn't doing to well with each contraction, so I had an emergency c section at 2 in the morning. This was my second pregnancy and my first was great so I have no clue what happend this time around.

I called and called the Dr's for weeks about my severe headaches and my sudden swelling. When I went to a Prenatal appt my BP was 165/146 and I had Protein in my urine. I felt fine! I was 28 weeks that week, and after several different attempts to lower my BP, my Dr admitted me to L&D for the night & told me that I needed to stay relaxed. My BP's didn't change while in L&D, so they began to give me Magnesium Sulfate. The Mag gave me Pulmonary Edema & my lungs began to fill with fluid. After staying in L&D for 2 days, they decided to perform an Emergency C-Section. I remember feeling like I was drowning & none of the Dr's or Nurses would listen to me, so I asked for another Dr. Almost immediately after he came in he ordered the Emergency C-Section, and they gave me Anesthesia to knock me out. Jackson was born 12 weeks early. They told me that had they not taken him when they did, I would have died. They diagnosed me with Severe PreeClampsia. It was horrible. The 9 days I spent in the Hospital I will never forget. Jackson was born 2lbs 2oz then dropped the day after to 1lb 14oz, but is doing okay for the most part. He is in the NICU & I have no idea when he will be coming home. He is still on O2 & is still having Apnea spells. However, he is on 22ml of Breast-milk every 3 hrs, and is now 2lbs 9oz. His Due Date was 10-11-12, and he was born on 7-29-12. Can someone please tell me when they think he will be home? I can't wait 2 months! Someone help my sanity! =[

My little girl was born at 30 weeks and she came home about a week before her due date. The nicu gets old. And all u want to do is have ur baby at home. The nicu will be just a faded memory when u finally do get to bring him home. Just pray and spend as much time as possible there. She is 9 monts old now and u would never notice. Do they have him on caffeine? That's what they used to make my LO heart rate stay up.
