Spinal Epiderals--Your experiances

posted 16th May
I have a few questions for women who had a spinal epideral.... I had to have a c-section and they gave me a spinal epideral. It hurt reqally bad when he put it in, my husband said when he stuck me he was digging around, and then a gush of blood came out.... i'm thinking this isnt normal. Well now I am 3 weeks PP and I'm getting these really bad migrains. I also had very bad bruising on my back afterwards, and I have been having some bad back pains as well.. Should I be concerned? i called my ob, but she hasnt called me back today so I probably wont hear from her until monday now. Did any of yours cause you to bleed, or have pain weeks afterwards?

i had the regular epi for a vaginal birth but they didnt dig around or anything, nor did i bleed.  i still have a bit of tenderness 12 weeks PP but im not  sure if that has anything to do with the fact i had preexisting back issues.  my husband watched and said it was quick, simple and no problems.  it didnt hurt to be put in, it just felt like a small twinge.  maybe your doc nicked your spinal cord b/c loss of spinal fluid can cause migraines, im just not sure for how long.  ask your doc!

I'm not sure if it's normal or not but I had the same thing. Now the migrains aren't that frequent but at least once a month my back completely goes out on me and I'm stuck in one position for hours.... it sucks because sometimes I even have to call out of work b/c of it. I'm no doctor, but i heard that that procedure is pretty risky, any false move and your in pain forever...my anesthesiologist was an idiot, but I was so in need of the meds (after two days of hard labor) I wasnt even paying attention. Anyway, I had/have the same things so let me know what you find out.

i had a spinal epidural..i'm 2weeks pp and the only thing i still have is some slight back pain at the in injection sight and that's every once in a while. it didn't hurt getting it in either, but i think it was because the area was numbed first...plus it completely numbed my right side but i had issues with the left side eventual they gave me some meds for nausousness...and the put me to sleep and then half hour after i fell asleep i had to be awoken up to deliver my son( i didn't wake up all the way, like the lights are home but no one was home type ordeal, so when i actually woke up 4 hours later, needless to say i wasn't really happy) oh well

Well when he went in with the lidacane i jumped becuase he went a little to far. my guy was a nut job too.. He was way to hyper to be doing that sort of thing... But like you i didnt have much choice in the matter. Some of the reading I've done said back pain and head ahces are side effects... I hope this is just a fluke and not going to be a regular thing...

I know that migraines after an epi. is a sure sign to call your Doc. just to be safe. When I got mine, he put it in and I felt tingling down my right leg and I could actually feel it in my spinal colum, he had to do it 2x before he got it right! I still to this day (5 months PP) have leg tingling once in a while and I have always had headaches but they seem alot worse now! If I were you I would go in just to make sure.

I opted for the epi.

My back was numbed then the epi was put in. The first needle hurt (like a deep pinch). Apparently I had a squirt of blood from my back when they inserted it, but I never knew until after the baby was born.

The only side effect I had was a tender injection site for a few days afterwards.

I never had a problem afterwords--just during. I had an epi 2 times that day. Actually, I know I had an epi after I was admitted, and then went into surgery again later that nite for a cervical laceration-- I'm not sure what the 2nd one was, but it was done differently than the 1st one. If that makes any sense.

I had a c-section and right before I was supposed to go in, the epi doc was supposed to put something more in.(I can never remember the name ofit)Needless to say he didnt, and I could feel the doc stiching me up in the end...NOT a very nice feeling. I dont remember much about recovery except telling them I needed more pain meds. I dont remember getting into my room after recovery at all. I think I blocked it out because I was in so much pain. My hubby said he felt so bad for me he almost cried because he felt so helpless.

I had no troubles at at. Normal PP bleeding, normal periods and no aches or pains. Thank god.

No problems at all with mine, and I'm now 7 weeks pp. For about a week after my spinal, I had a little tenderness at the site, but that was it

I still have some pain in the site every once in a while and I am 4.5 months pp.  I will never get one again.

my first experiance was AWESOME, but my second has made me question rather I want more kids! haha

My first I slept most of the time, woke up pushed a few times, and there was this beautiful baby. No pain.

This go around it wore off, they tried 3 different meds before asking me if I wanted it 're threaded'. In the end I was so close to delivery anyway I opted to just grin and bare it. And it SUCKED. I hurt, I cried, and it took A LOT longer. But the end result was the same

awww   I'm sorry about that. Given my good experience I would get an epi again.

I had one.. and he numbed me before putting it in... it shouldn't have hurt at all .. my guy said if it hurt at all let him know.. he did dig arounda little and ask me when I felt it was centered in my spine. but no pain. I have had some head aches.. but I think thats because of all the billions of pills and pain killers I had while in the hospitol.. I also had a c section. But I have had no problems...

Yeah it sucked too.  I got it when I was about 5 cm and it wore off on my right side and nothing would help the pain there at all.  At least I didn't get a headache thank god.  But, if I do ever have another one, I would go natural.
