I know a little boy in Amelie's preschool class that went where his special needs sister goes. Its a special school that integrates non special needs kids with special needs kids to make a nice blend. Most of the kids that aren't special needs have siblings that are, so they tend to be very sensitive and patient.

Maybe search around for a school like that?

Is she going to be in special Ed or anything? Just try to teach her to stand up for herself. I'm sorry mama. That's a hard one. But I think all parents worry about their kid not making friends. But I'm sure it's wrae when they have special needs.

Theyre not gonna have someone work with her? My son is in speech therapy now (hes only 2) but they said if he still needs help when hes older they will get help thru the public school systems

the schools have to help her if shes behind in any way, or maybe im missing something =/

She will be going to a K that has half typical half SN. We are moving out of town specifically for that school. but thats only 1 year.

she will still be getting help at school but i highly doubt she will get someone that follows her around 100% of the time. and its hard to teach a kid that can't talk to stand up for themselves. She can talk but i mean she's barely at the 4 word phrase stage. and most of those words you wont understand unless you see her on a daily basis.

You'll just have to see how far she comes in one year I guess. I'm sure they'll help her.

I know she can make friends. But for every 1 friend she can make theres 6 kids that treat her like smurf and say mean stuff to her. When we go to the mall or the park or the pool she typically only gets to play with kids 3 and under or kids that are 10+ that feel bad for her. All the kids in between dont like her because "she cant talk right" or is "stupid".

I hope she has a good teacher that helps nip that crap in the but and creates a caring respectful classroom for her.

She's been in therapy for almost 3 years. She is slowly progressing but theres 0 chance she's going to go from 4 word phrases where only 1 word is understandable to full sentences that a 5/6yo can understand. and like I said i doubt there is going to be someone with her all the time. So i'm curious how other SN parents dealt with their child being hurt all the time. as her mom the thought just rips my gut out every time.

I'm sorry mama. I've worked with special needs kids and I've never had problems like that   it breaks my heart for you. Does she seem upset by it? Usuall the kids are pretty good with the kids who have special needs and are Very helpful. Maybe it's just what I allow to be acceptable. I really hope she gets a good teacher

Her lack of verbal communication shouldn't be too big of an issue in kindergarten. My son has a friend who almost never speaks and one that has a hard time speaking due to a speech problem they both did great in school and are going to first grade this year. Kids that young aren't to judgmental or mean to others. My sons only complaint about any of the kids was that a girl didn't wear a hair bow to school.

Ive met the teacher and she really is a nice woman but there are a lot of kids and a lot can go unnoticed. Faith gets VERY upset. She comes to me every time crying because she asks kids to "play please" and they either ignore her, tell her that she cant play with them, call her stupid or whatever else. She's even said sorry to them when they call her stupid like shes done something wrong. Most parents ignore it. I'm constantly having to tell parents to deal with their kids and i've told kids myself that calling people stupid isnt okay. She can't tell you what happened and why she's upset. She doesnt have the words. I know why she's upset because I (unlike a lot of people) watch my kids when we are out. So some adult on the playground isnt even going to know why she's upset to help her. Makes me really sad to think about.

You must live in heaven then because the kids here are not nice. Which i blame the parents for. So many kids here even at 4/5 go unsupervised a lot and arent taught how to treat other people. Im not kidding that EVERY time we go to a public place Faith is treated like an outcast and called names. 2 days ago at the pool boys were coming up to her and splashing her in the face and screaming. She has SPD so she would try to run and cover her ears while crying and they found it to be funny. Its ridiculous.

That's horrible! Their parents didn't do anything to stop them?

My son was actually the bully at school he would get upset and to try pick fights with older kids and almost got expelled from school. This year his school has him categorized as "emotionally disabled" due to use bipolar disorder and anti-social tendencies. His bad days way outnumbered his good thankfully this new medicine is helping so he may have a normal year.
