what would you do if....

posted 16th May
at you're job when they found out you were pregnant they started giving you only 2 hours a day? It is really making me mad.... I work mornings at Arby's and I hate the fact that the only thing they have me doing is LOBBY (all I do is clean the lobby and then go home) but what they don't understand is that doing the lobby makes me feel worse especially since its in the mornings. All the leaning and moving around just makes me feel SOOOOO sick... I can't take it but I really need a job, my mom and me don't get along very well so I moved out and I live with my friend which used to be one of my old managers at Arby's (she no longer works there because of how they did her) and we are barely making it. I mean with me only getting 2 hours I don't feel that it's worth it... Today I put in tons of applications online hoping to find something. what do you think? am i blowing this out of proportion? or should I do something? someone please i need advice....

How many hours a day did you work before? It could be considered discrimination and you can get help with it from the equal opportunity coalition....http://www.eeoc.gov/

Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Yeah...there are definately laws to prevent that type of thing. Have you tried talking to your boss about it? Maybe s/he doesn't understand that they're doing the exact opposite of what you need.

I work in HR, it depends. If you're a full time employee then you need to make 40 hours a week, PT they can schedule you when ever they need you. However if they drastically cut your hours down to 2 after just because your pregnant and not because business is slow, then you have the right to sue for discriminiation.
I can't imagine being around the smell of that food early in the morning either, I get nauseated by the smell of meat!
Hope things work out for you.

Is it four hours? I thought it was three.

Hmm, that might be because they'd make us stay three hours before they'd let us go home, to make sure they got some work out of us before paying us.

It's been a while since I worked at that company.

I'd start asking all my co-workers if I can cover for them. On their days that they want off let them know that you are the one to call or if they want to go home early that you'll work for them. Not sure how that works at Arby's but at both restaurants my husband works at, he does that when he wants extra hours. I'd also ask the manager what is up. If you can still do your job while pregnant, that shouldn't be the reason your hours are cut.

Now I feel like Arby's for dinner.

Why would they be doing that so early in your pregnancy? I have waitressed and they usually don't make the girls stop waiting tables till about 5-6 months, usually more like 6. HAve you been complaining or very sick to your stomach? Tell them you don't need your hours reduced.

I would check into that. I waitressed when I was pregnant with my first son, and they did not care that I was pregnant, they still gave me doubles! Is your boss a man? They may think that they are helping when they are actually screwing you.

when i was working at Target..and they found out i was pregnant..they started to treat me like shit..more than before...and they would make me bend over to clean things ( i worked in the starbucks inside target ) then my hours were cut to only two days a week and it was the busiest days (weekend ) and they put me by myself..so i had to take care of guest and clean by myself with no break..so i ended up getting sick and i couldnt make it to work so i would call out..and when i was going to call out one day they called first told me it was a no call no show..then i go back to work finally and they had me off the schedule..they were trying to get me to quit so i couldnt get unemployment..so they told me that i dont work there anymore because i abandoned the job..assholes!!
I hated working there anyway, because they have no respect for there employers

Meh, it's ok. McGuinty is a bit of a dick as Premier but still better than Harris was.
