I asked for a run down on how the meds worked. They usually give both you and their teacher an evaluation sheet to fill out and they compare that. They'll talk with you about her behavior basically, and take into account family history (my mom has ADD and though I never presented any symptoms, it's still important info). When grades or classwork are being effected, they take this whole thing a lot more seriously. Then they'll recommend something to try, at a low dose. It might take weeks or months to see any improvements/get the doseage right. I've tried three different meds with Tatum so far.

We've always seen the signs in Jen, but I didn't want to do anything unless it was negatively affecting her.
I got her progress report and she's got 2 b's an 3 d's  
I have ADD and her dad did as a kid.
I asked her teacher what we can do to help her with her grades and she gave me nothing other than "jenna has trouble focusing and is off track a lot", so it's time to take the next step.

I am pretty sure we are over. I can't take this smurf anymore

We didn't initially want to do anything medically either but, when she got to Kindergarten she was just a little hellcat. Getting any type of schoolwork done was challenge enough. I'd talk with her teachers and none of them out and out recommended I take her to a doctor but I could tell it was implied. I think a lot of them are trying to be careful these days with overstepping their bounds and being all "Hey! get your kids some pills"
At that point when her schoolwork was failing, I had to agree. I'd rather medicate her if she really needs it in these early years so she can have a solid foundation of school routine than screw all that up from the get go. Hopefully when she gets older, we can ween her. If she needs it for school though, she needs it, it's just gotta be a priority.

Well dang, people. I thought Benadryl was a cure-all.   I've never used it, but that's what they always say. Lol. Learn something new everyday.

And to add, I'm sure you might know a bit from your own experience but the stuff Tatum is on doesn't turn her into a "zombie" or whatever else people might stereotype about adhd medication. She does get quiet but I'm also able to hold long and thoughtful conversations with her. There's no delay in processing what's just been said to her and her impulse tendencies go way down. It's been great finding the right meds at the right dose.

That's exactly what Daniel said. Get her on meds for a couple years so she can get her feet under her, because we don't want her entire school career to be a struggle from such a bad start.
She didn't get bad grades the last 2 years, but damn, 2 months into this year and she's already failing?  
Part of it was she didn't get real grades in co. And we were only here for the last quarter of last year. I just don't want her to hate school because she doesn't do well

*thoughtful, haha. It came in handy yesterday when I finally sat down and had the homosexual talk with her.
I've got a lesbian couple I'm friends with coming over for dinner tonight and I've been panicking about the kids possibly embarrassing me in some way  

She took it so well, I was really relieved.
