I'm sorry - I didn't mean to write you off. Feel free to ask me as many questions as you'd like! I've heard they're all done differently. For us, we went to the Intermediate Unit, and in one room there were about 8 or 10 people. It was a bit intimidating. I'm still not sure what everyone was, but I know there was a speech therapist, physical therapist, behavioral therapist, occupational therapist, psychiatrist, an administrator and a couple others I still don't know about. They all took turns trying to engage him in something - a cutting task, jumping off steps, doing a puzzle, asking simple questions, etc. That's what they wrote their report on. They were all very nice, and the director told me at the end that she suspected the report would conclude a diagnosis of autism. The nice thing about them having a psychiatrist is when the IEP meeting happened, 4 months later, I automatically had a medical diagnosis so I could immediately sign up for Medicaid and started getting services for him within a month. Don't worry if your child is uncooperative, they will understand that and probably expect it, and it won't affect the diagnosis if that's how he usually is!
