Why do people do dumb things with their babies?

posted 10th Aug '12
Seriously! Why?

Someone posted a pic of their 4 month old eating icecream on facebook.

WHY? Are people just completely uneducated? Or do they just not give a crap? Do they use crappy logic to think these things are ok?

NO your baby cannot sit on your lap in the car. NO they cannot eat solids at 4 months. NO they cannot drink a bottle of water!

I research EVERYTHING before doing it!

Dd started cereal at 2 months, baby food around 3 months and had a fudgesicle at 3 months. I looked it up before starting everything. Dd is healthy and happy and I'm by no means uneducated. Not your kid, not your problem.

What you stated, a lot of them are uneducated as to why these things aren't good for babies. (Except the lap thing, that's just dumb smurfery.)

I agree with the last statement... but the first is bullsmurf. Nowhere in a medically acceptable site did you find that a fudgesicle is ok at 3 months.

when your child is diabetic... don't complain.. make sure you tell yoru kid it's your fault

Idk. Uneducated is the only thing I can think of. Believe it or not, I let my 6 month old (my first) lick icing off my finger once. *shrug. I didn't know any better. She's alright.

This! My oldest started cereal at 5 weeks because she was taking over 8oz of formula every 2-3 hours. Her doctor told us to put her on it. She's by no means unhealthy now and she's almost 5.

Edit: No baby food or anything else though until she was 7 months. The cereal was all she needed to lessen her formula intake.

Okay this is something I've never fully understood, so I'll ask since you're here and brought it up. Why didn't you just give her more formula? Babies tend to eat a lot, I personally have never seen the issue with just upping the amount.

Don't you think that's a completely different situation than what the OP subscribed? I'm just saying.

A 5 week old should not be taking that much, that often. She was 9lbs 9oz at birth and was taking 4oz bottles every feeding before we left the hospital. Yes, babies eat a lot but we felt she shouldn't be eating that much. We gave her 2-3 TBSP of cereal right before a bottle and she'd take 5-6oz bottles every 3-4 hours with cereal beforehand. Her doctor was the one that told us what to do and it worked for us. Our second didn't take cereal until 5 months and solids until almost 9 months; she was 8lbs 15oz at birth. So each baby is different in my opinion.

People are entitled to what they will with their OWN children. And solids can be given at 17 weeks (4 months) My dd at 4 months enjoyed the icecream we shared in a blizard form from DQ. She also like popcicles as well and cherry is her fav flavour. She is now 6 months...unless its your kid that was given it against your wishes MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.....
