breastfed infant's bowel movements.

posted 16th May
My daughter is almost 3 weeks and is not having 3-4 bowel movements a day like she's "supposed to". Yesterday she made just one really substantial one. She is eating every 2-3 hours a day with one long stretch at night and has a wet diaper after every feeding. She feeds on one breast usually for 10 minutes (when I pump I get 4 oz. from each side) and is content. I'm wondering if anyone else's baby doesn't poop as much as they should? I'm not worried, but wondering if I should be.

It's normal for breastfed babies to go even up to a few days without pooping because the breastmilk is so good for them that they are able to absorb most of the nutrients instead of having to pass it as waste.

LOL i remember those diaper changes..Brodie would have 1 poop every 10 days on the day and i was ALWAYS prepared for it..there was no way we could keep all that in his tiny little diaper...

Exactly this.

Their little bodies utilize all the nutrients in the breastmilk, so there is nothing for them to poop out. I would go by wet diapers instead of how many poops she has in a day.

They can go up to 10 days without having a bowel movement before you should start to worry. I think Cameron's longest poop strike was 8 days. It's a nice break though!

yep, the first time it happend to Brodie i ended up putting him in the tub and pacing for at least 10 min trying to come up with some sort of plan to get his onsie off and him cleaned up without getting shit everywhere...well they 10 minutes was a waste because i got it everywhere anyways and i ended up just cutting the onsie off him...it was pleasant.
