High school with two kids

posted 9th Aug '12
I am going to be finishing my senior year this year but I will be doing it from home with a 2 year old and a new born. I am so nervous! At first it was seeming like it would be impossible with all of the new policies for the school and the new changes. I was feeling like maybe I should put it off yet another year. After talking to my counselor and my teachers though, they agreed to allow me to move ahead in both of my classes. I will not be given any extensions and no late work will be accepted but I can move ahead in my classes. Which is awesome because this gives me a chance to get ahead before baby #2 arrives in the next couple of weeks.

This is day four of my classes and I'm already half way finished with one of my classes. A few more days and I should be done with that one and only have the one class left!

It's easier right now because I only have one child but that can change any day now....

Good for you!
I did my last 2 years of high school online just because school got lame and I was ready to rip some heads off.
It's difficult to get yourself motivated but you have 2 beautiful little babies to get ya going.
I'm gonna be doing college online during my pregnancy then when the baby gets here & I'm pretty nervous about that.

I'm nervous for college! I want to wait until the youngest is a year to start college because I'm going for dental assisting and need to go to a campus. Plus in December DH will be leaving for training for the national guard.

I'm scared to do it with two. I'd be pissed if I fell behind and got kicked from my classes because I only need 1.5 credits to graduate.

Good for you. It always makes me happy when girls graduate even when they have babies. Most girls have no support and end up quitting. My best friend had her son in march our senior year. She was out of school until april and we graduated in may. She now goes to college and has 3 semesters left until graduating from the LPN program. She hasn't let having her son stop her from doing what she needs to for him. I love seeing girls like y'all doing what you need to for your babies

Yeah that would probably be really difficult on your own with 2 young kids. I'm going to medical coding and billing. It's only a 9 month course online and then I can start work from home. I basically just chose the easiest, fastest thing for now. I might so back to school for something "better" later in life but for now I think my decision is for the best.

The Dental Assisting program I am looking at is 9 months long also but it's hands on so I have to go to a campus. I plan on going back to college when the kids are a lot older for journalism but I don't think I personally can build a career on that.

I would love to do journalism. I'm really good with that whole writing thing lol. But around where I live I know for sure that I would make no money.

That's what my issue with it is! I love to write and I love journalism but I don't think I would be able to make a career out of it, I plan on going just for myself. Just a personal goal I've had since I was in elementary school.

Well good   That's one good thing about having children young, you have so much time once your kids get older to go back and finish some long term goals. My parents are 35 and already have me out of the house and starting my own family. They could completely start over if they wanted to lol.

I don't know if they have programs in AZ like they do here in TX, but there's programs for Dental Assistant that only take a month or so.. You go on weekends and you get certified.. & if you like you can go online to get registerted.. I have about 4 friends that did this and they loved it!!

I'll have to look into that! That would be awesome with the kids. DH usually has weekends off so we wouldn't need day care if I could do that.
