re: YES this is a stimulus check question!!

posted 16th May
It is a base amount of $600 for singletons and $1200 for couples with an additional $300 per child. It is based upon your income. The IRS has a calulator on their website to calculate it, but you will need your 1040 to do so.

I got a letter in the mail from them telling me how much we would get and when to expect it. They said I should expect it today..but apparently everyone in my town got the same letter and even my brother did and he already got his. lol.

go to irs.gov
there is a place on there where you have to enter certain info about your taxes, and they tell you what they think you will get. try it and see...ive heard it has something to do with how much taxes you paid in.

Wouldn't you think the less you made, the more you'd get?

I wouldn't think so because if you made less than you were more likely to be on some type of assistance from the state

Hey Ladies..

Just wanted to make sure everyone understand that is not "free money" by any means.. look at is as an advancement on next years tax return.. If you received a $900 stimulus check that is just money that will be missing next year when you file. Hubby and I have considered not even cashing our return unless we are in desperate need for this reason.

As for when yo receive it I know that people who paid for their income tax through a service will be receiving paper checks not direct deposit like we all thought. Also the amount you recieve is based upon your net tax income liability around.. In order for you to recieve the full refund your net tax income amount must be equal to or greater than the $600 for indiviuals and $1200 for couples. Hope this helps.

How Much Will You Get?
Qualifying single filers (AGI less than $75,000) will get rebates of up to $600. Qualifying couples (AGI less than $150,000) will get rebates of up to $1,200, plus $300 per dependent child, with no maximum on the number of eligible children. Persons who owe no income taxes, but earned at least $3,000 in income from Social Security and veterans disability will get rebate checks of $300 for individuals and $600 for couples.

I made 13,000 last year, and the only assistance I received last year was child support and medicaid. The child support was a whopping 81 dollarsa week for 2 toddlers, and I got kicked off medicaid.

Not true:

from www.irs.gov
Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?
A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment.
Q. Ifmy stimulus payment is not going to affectmy2008 tax refund or increase the taxI owe next year, why is itI need to retain theletterthat lists how muchI received?
A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount onyour 2007 returnbut you doon your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received. [New 4/11/08]
Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?
A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return
