Ok...just a little worried

posted 16th May
Last night i rolled over in my sleep onto my back..now ive read a ton of threads about this but i couldnt seem to find my answer...my left leg started to fall asleep and when i realized that it was falling asleep i turned on my side. From being on back apparently long enough for my leg to fall asleep..do you think i hurt my baby at all? i just hear all these things about your baby losing oxygen and im just a little worried. Thanks for your help!

I don't know, I had my foot fall asleep and my arm rolling over like that. One time I woke up and my arm was free but my hand fell asleep (weird I know). Have you been feeling the baby move any?

I know my doctor told me that I should try not sleeping on my back as much as possible , but some times in the middle of the night I wake up to find myself laying flat on my back with the worst back pains in the world . But I found this on yahoo answers .... hope it helps

Although there's no real harm in sleeping on your right side, lying on your left side is actually good for you and your baby: It improves the flow of blood and nutrients to the placenta and it helps your kidneys efficiently eliminate waste products and fluids from your body. That, in turn, reduces swelling in your ankles, feet, and hands. If you train yourself to sleep on your left side early on, you'll have an easier time falling asleep when your belly is bulging later.

During the second half of pregnancy, avoid sleeping on your back, a position that puts the full weight of your uterus on your spine, back muscles, intestines, and the inferior vena cava (the vein that transports blood from your lower body to the heart). Back-sleeping can also put you at risk for backaches and hemorrhoids, inefficient digestion, and impaired breathing and circulation. Lying on your back in the second and third trimester can also cause changes in blood pressure. For some women, it can cause a drop in blood pressure that can make them feel dizzy; for others, it can cause an unwanted increase in blood pressure.

While they tell you not to lie on your back. Your body woke you up by having your leg fall asleep. I'm pretty sure that you will be okay. Many of the little emails I get from various parent sites say that you wake up way before any real damage can be done, and it's more likely most of it will be to you anyway, with the shortness of breath and so on... drink some ice cold water or some juice, and then check the movements. Try not to worry... it happens. Good Luck

You know what...i asked my doctor and she said the same thing! lol she said your body will let you know before anything is done to your baby hence the reason my leg fell asleep. Thank you so much ladies!

Everyone says that lying on your left side is best, and although I don't disagree with that, I don't think it's gonna be TERRIBLE to sleep on your back once in awhile or at least if you happen to roll on your back while sleeping. I got a lil paranoid myself becuz I'd wake up on my back all the time. With my son, I didn't even know about the back thing. Obviously nothing went wrong with him. If you do it once in awhile I think it's ok. When I'm on my right side, I do feel more uncomfortable though, and I'll have to turn on my left side coz my leg will fall asleep. lol
