Hi, I dont have a premie or a baby with reflux but have worked in Pharmacy for years. The most prescribed medication for babies with reflux is Prilosec or the generic Omeprazole. Occasionally if that one doesnt work they prescribe Prevacid but these are the only meds that are indicated for infants. You should notice within a couple doses whether your child is getting better or not. Are you dosing once daily or twice daily? If you dont feel that it is helping after a couple days I would call your pediatrician or the doctor that is prescribing this med and talk with them. They maybe able to ease your mind.

Bless your heart...this is horrible to go through  I can't remember it has been 10 yrs..( I remember how helpless I felt though). I know that they had me putting a lil rice in her bottle really early at around 3 weeks...(do not do unless dr says  of course) My 10 yr old had reflux and colic when she was lil. She would projectile so bad you felt so sorry for her.I know she had some meds but they didn't help any better then putting a lil rice cereal so I quit giving it to her -there were 2 meds...can't think of the names though...im so much help...lol
GOOD LUCK!

My little sister was a preemie and had reflux. i dont know the name of the medication they gave her, but it didn't help anyway because she would throw it all up. After they finally controlled the reflux, she learned how to gag herself and throw up everytime she got upset. but now she is 13 and is as healthy as can be! i'm sure you have your hands full right- so good luck to you!

Doctors say it usually takes a good week to see results. My son takes prilosec and I noticed a change in his fussiness within a few days! Remember, it won't make them spit up less, it just makes it not burn when they do!

Zantac is one of the older drugs used. Is she using the zantac once a day or twice a day. That can make a big difference. Usually with infants they break the dose up into 2 small doses a day. If by Monday it is still not working for her I would call your doctor and see if they will prescribe prilosec for her. Give the Pharmacy a little while to make it though because it is a special compound that they have to make since it does not come in a liquid.

My baby was born at 26 1/2 weeks and she is now 9 days old. She has reflux and they think this has caused some issues with her saturation levels. She is taking reglin (spelling?!?) and Zantac. She has only been on it for 24 hours now, but it has seemed to help with her oxygen saturation levels.

My son was born at 31 weeks and he had a pneumocardiogram done in the NICU to confirm that he had reflux. He was put on zantac and reglan from the time he was less than 4 pounds. I really did well though. He was on that for almost a year and we weaned him off of it per doctors orders. He was on other meds too for wet lungs when he came home. I know its a nightmare going through reflux. It will get better in time. Good luck!
