Constipated Baby?

posted 16th May
I think my Baby might be constipated. He hasn't pooped since noon time yesterday. He is 3 weeks old and it looks like he's trying to poop but he can't. He doesn't seem to be in any real pain or anything but he was pooping like 6 times a day and then yesterday there was only 1 and none today so far. So I guess I have3 questions... How long does a Baby have to go with no poop to be considered constipated? And what can I do to help him poop? And do you think I should call the Dr or wait a few days and see what happens?

I might just be being paranoid.. I'm new at all this. lol
Thanx Ladies.

Yea I was thinking that.. but I feel like an ass because I have called there2 times already since he has been born for other issues, first I thought he had an eye infection but it was just a clogged tear duct, then I had a question about his formula.

Those people are gonna love me. LoL

But you're right.. it's there job so I should just do it.

my daughter is having pooping problems too. But my doctor told me it can be normal for formula fed babies to go 3-4 days without a poopy diaper. If it looks like he is straining to go you could try the themometor method. That seems to help my little one when she is straining.

Formula... Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron to be exact.

usually breastfed babies can go up to 5 days w/o pooping and formula fed can go 3 without it being an issue. according to my daughters ped, she says its not an issue until them. also she had suggested to me, dark kayro syrup in their bottle, 1/2 teaspoon. ive used it and sometimes it takes a bottle or two for it to work. secondly you can use infant glycerin suppositories...cut it in 1/2 long ways, so it isnt so wide, but leave the length the way you can get it in far enough. alot of times, just inserting one, will get them moving and they end up pooping it out before it desolves. They are safe to use, with even newborns, they had to use them for my baby when she was just a few days old in the NICU. good luck.

If your baby is on Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron and isn't pooping, try switching them to Enfamil Prosobee. It's soy and technically for preemies but a lot of babies can't handle all of the iron in regular Enfamil yet and they get constipated. That's what I did with my son and he was back to making us all gag and cringe the very next day

LoL... I think it's the concentrated enfamil that does it because he is pooping like crazy off of the kind that you don't have to add water to. I think maybe it's the City Water here that isn't agreeing with him.
