Binky Poll

posted 8th Aug '12
Another post about pacifiers got me wondering how other babies were with binkies? My DS never took to them! In the hospital we always tried to give him one but he never wanted it.. The nurses would take him for tests or what not and he always came back with one in his mouth.. So I asked them how they got him to take a paci and they told me they put sugar water on it?! Ok.. Lol well he took a paci those few times and maybe a couple times when we got home but has never really wanted anything to do with them.. This made me both sad and relieved.. I think binkies are so flipping cute and would have loved him being soothed by them, but I'm glad I don't have to deal with weaning him off of them! So how was your baby with a paci? JW

My baby took to one right away. Now she loves them and she is 2 months old. I have always loved them so I was hoping shed be a binky baby.

Binkys are my sanity now. She won't sit in her bouncer or swing without sucking on one.

He's three months and he has only ever taken it while sleeping or in the car. He's not a paci baby!

I know they are so stinking cute! I bought a ton while he was a newborn but he never liked them   lol he's 11 months old now and I just dug one up and gave it to him to see what he'd think he's just chewing on it and spinning it around in his hands.. Lol

My oldest wouldn't take one and sucked on his tongue. My middle was a binkie baby through and through and kicked the nighttime habit at 18 months. My youngest was tongue tied at birth and even though he had it clipped, he could never get a really strong sucking motion so a paci wouldn't stay in his mouth. He's a thumb sucker and lord amighty do I wish he could have done the paci.

My older two boys never took it from day one but my baby(7 months) will take it every now and then. We try not to give it to him though because we dont want to worry about weaning him.

Be glad he never took it. My son is a binky freak, he is 29 months and won't give his up. He only has it at nap/bed now but if we try getting him to sleep without it all hell breaks loose

The hospital I gave birth at doesn't provide pacis if you tell them you're breastfeeding to avoid nipple confusion, so he never had one in the hospital and when we got home he nursed pretty much 24/7 for the first 2 months (seriously, he never stopped. I just started having my husband watch him and slept while he ate because he never stopped), and then he started sucking his thumb. He's 15 months now and still sucks his thumb when he's tired and when he's going to sleep but never once has he ever wanted a paci. He's interested in them, but he just likes to play with them. He chews on them and shakes them, but that's been the extent of it. Personally I'm glad he never wanted one. One less thing to take away from him as he gets older. The only reason I wish he would at least use one if given to him is my dad bought this really neat binky thermometer and I never got to use it haha.
