I think my kid grew 3 inches over night.

Literally. The night before last he wore his favorite pair of pj's and they had shrunk about 3 inches up his legs and the same thing happened last night. I have a 4.5 year old in 6's.   it makes me a little sad my little guy is getting to be a big boy.

maybe they shrunk in the dryer?

also, pajamas are weird with sizing i noticed. my 2 yr wears 3T pj's.. but in everything else he fits 24m. it's weird.

No. They didn't shrink. He grew   3 different brands... Between a set and two mismatched pieces. His regular clothes are a little small too, but not that bad. With my experience different brands fit differently... But he has short legs so most pants and shorts are longer on him than intended but fit his waist well. If that makes sense?
