I offically love you C. I would ask you to have my babies, but sadly I'm already in the family persuasion. You make a really valid point. I doubt if people who get off on the tangent of gay marriage ever really went back and thought of it like this. I bet if you ever brought it up to someone like that they would make excuses though.

Quoting ♥ Rachel ♥:“ Nothing, it just says you can't get married in the christian church pretty if you pretty much don't follow the bible, which states eating pork is a sin.”

But where in the Bible does it say that anybody who commits a sin can't get married?

Because it's been said, especially earlier tonight in another thread, that because homosexuality is a biblical abomination, homosexuals should not be allowed to marry in the Christian church. So, if that is the case, then anyone who has committed a biblical abomination should not be allowed to marry in the Christian church, either.

Citing abomination as the reason that homosexual marriage should not be allowed in church means, if you are to follow the "rules" of "no sin is greater than any other sin" and "you cannot pick and choose which parts of the bible to believe", that all other abominations are out too. Because you're marrying two people who commit the abomination - eating pork or having gay sex is no different, they're both abominations in the eyes of God, according to Leviticus.

If you use that reasoning, you have to apply it to ALL the abominations, else you're breaking the rules and picking and choosing which abominations to not allow to marry.

The bible does not say that, to my knowledge.

Individual people however claim that homosexuals cannot marry, citing Lev and biblical abomination. So, those people, if they are to follow their own rules, they must also believe those who eat pork cannot marry either.

By marry, I mean marry within the church itself.

Ahh yes.. The classic agnostic citing Leviticus thingy.. Okay..

How do I start? Okay, I guess first off, Leviticus is in the OLD testament, the part written by the Jews.. Modern day Christians understand that not everything in the OT applies to us in the here and now.. The OT is still part of the Bible because it is the "foundation" so to speak, upon which the new covenant is built.. The OT also served its purpose when it gave us the over 700 prophecies made about Jesus that later were found to have come true in the New Testament..

When Jesus came, that was God making a new covenant with man.. It was the "new way" so to speak.. Everything that you need to know to be a good Christian and follow the kind of lifestyle you need in order to be part of God's Kingdom in heaven, is found in the NT .. Jesus pretty much tells us all we need to know.. And even in the NT, homosexuality is a sin - found referenced clearly in Corinthians and Romans..

So there's getting that out of the way.. (although I’ll still have to ask about the bacon thing, lol )

But the thing with the bacon and the homosexuality, lol, is that it’s very hard to truly repent the former when it’s basically a lifestyle and most people who ARE homosexuals don’t see anything wrong with what they’re doing or how they’re leading their life.. It’s much easier to ask to be forgiven, and truly WANT to be forgiven, for eating pig.. IMO

It’s the repentance that counts with God – the sincere acknowledgment of your sin

But why would a homosexual want to get married in the Christian Church in the first place is my question? There are plenty of other non-denominational ways that people choose to use to make their union official..

Sorry but when it comes down to it, you can’t be openly gay AND Christian.. Those are just two conflicting lifestyles.. I know there are actually gay and lesbian churches but it still doesn’t make any sense..

Ahh, ok. I get what you're saying.

Well, people who say anybody who commits an abomination should not be able to marry are stupid. Nobody would be able to marry. Everybody commits sins.

Frankly, I don't understand why anyone who was homosexual would want to be Christian, either. It's not a very welcoming religion towards homosexuals, heh.

With this, I'm speaking about the subject of using Leviticus to justify disallowing homosexual marriage in the church. If Leviticus is used to justify that, then to be fair, all of Leviticus needs to be taken into account, not just that one passage.

If we're using the bible as a whole, that's a different story. But many people ONLY cite the Leviticus passage about it being an abomination, and use that specifically to justify no gay marriage in church. So, if that's their reasoning, they HAVE to agree that pork eaters can't marry, either.

heh

Well, it's a good thing it doesn't say pork-eaters should be put to death.

I guess if Christians wanted to follow the bible exactly, then they'd have to put all homosexuals to death?
