breast feeding is it to late?

My son is about 10 weeks old and we have had an awful time with BF. The first month 1/2 he mostly only got breast milk he did latch some but i pumped a lot. My milk supply went really low and after weeks of fighting with trying to make it work i threw in the towle since i thought my milk dried up. Then the last 2 days i have milk. I am not able to fill him up when we do BF but he is getting something. I have been putting him to breast at least 3 feedings a day even though it isnt for long. I know my milk supply is very confused but is it possible to still be successful in BF?

I think so. There was a point where I wasn't even pregnant and I could fill a cup with breastmilk and I was 15, so if I could do that I'm sure you can probably massaging your breasts, kangarooing and pumping a bit would help stimulate the milk.

Nope just keep putting baby to the breast as often as possible. Pump lots. Talk with a LC and look into fenugreek, mothers milk tea, brewers yeast or dark beer, drink tons of water, oatmeal, the more you nurse the more you produce.

I just want to finally fill him up when i BF. Since we got out of the hospital he has never gotten full from just boob. I would BF then give him what i pumped and now he mostly gets formula. I was just really hoping this was going to come more natural for us.

Took me 4 months before I could stop supplementing but it is possible.

I have fenugreek. When you say dark beer like just drink a bottle of a dark beer? Like my family is being supportive but in the wrong way. They want me to except that BF failed but i really dont want to =/

Dark beer has the yeast. I hear Guinness is a good one.

you could totally EBF at some point, but it's gonna take LOTS of stimulation and I would recommend seeing a LC. let baby cluster feed for as long as possible (if he wants to nurse for 3-5 hours straight to increase the milk that would be normal for a baby trying to increase a milk supply.) then pump on top of that after every feeding. In a few days you could have a full supply. I personally had a similar issue and was separated from baby for 2 months when she was 2 weeks old and lost my supply due to illness despite pumping every 2 hours. When I got home from the hospital when she was almost 12 weeks old we just sat and nursed all day for hours on end to build my supply back from nothing and I would pump after feedings. within days I had a full supply plus extra milk and I EBF for 4 additional months and am still breastfeeding at 2years+. You CAN do this, its just gonna take time and patience and the ability to relax and trust that your body CAN do this if you give it enough time. Good luck and PM me if you need some support

sounds great and you might want to talk to the lactation dept. at your hospital if WIC isn't helpful. I believe lactation services have to be covered by insurance now there was just some big hoo haa about that ( i could be wrong) good luck!

It's definitely possible!!
After 7wks of EBF I got mastitis and was told I couldn't breastfeed through it, being a new mum I had no idea, so I stopped. When my daughter was 11wks old I started pumping again to see if I could get it back, and by 14wks she was off formula and EBF again. I pumped every hour, 10 minutes on each side, 9 1000MG fenugreek tablets a day, lots of water and lots of warm baths with the kidlet to calm us both to latch. She latched 10 days after I started pumping, only for a second but it was enough, the next pump session I attempted to put her on and she latched on and fed for an hour and my milk supply grew exponentially from there
You can do it!'

Even adoptive parents can breastfeed, so you getting your milk supply back up is definitely possible. Try eating foods that increase milk supply, pump often or put your LO to your breast often [even if he doesnt seem hungry] and there are supplements you can take to also increase milk supply. Good luck momma! :]
