My hubby wants to name our daughter Vanessa. I prefer Nessa. Just took the "van" off. What do you guys like better?

Vanessa, and Nessa can be her nickname. If you name her Nessa people probably will assume her full name is Vanessa anyway.

My brother's girlfriend's name is Vanessa and people call her Nessa so probably would be best to name her Vanessa and use Nessa as a nickname to make you both happy
