Anyone else effaced and dialated at 35wks?

posted 15th May
So, a few days ago I was having contractions every 20-25 minutes, which I know is nothing to really worry about, except I had them that regularly for over 2 days straight. And I thought I might be leaking amniotic fluid. So I went to my doctor, well it was the doctor on call, and they checked me out, did an exam and whatnot. Come to find out, I'm actually leaking cervical fluid, which ya know is normal, because my cervix is starting to thin out. All of this was on Sunday. I was 25% effaced and he said I was maybe 1/2-1 cm dialated. I'm only 35 weeks along, so I figured they'd put me on some kind of bed rest or tell me to take it as easy as I can, but they didn't. They said that I was just fine and to go about my business as usual. I suppose it seemed kind of odd to me that they weren't that concerned that I'm 35 weeks, the baby has completely dropped, 25% effaced, dialating, and having contractions that regularly.I was wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation and your doc not be too concerned? I know my when my friend was as far along as me she was dialated 2cm and was put on bedrest for the duration of her pregnancy. Strict bedrest too.

Plus... I feel like I can feel myself dialating, even if it's not much, I can feel something going on down there. There is SOOOO much pressure. And I swear my little girl loves to scratch her head and I know if someone looked up in there they'd see a handprint. LOL

You can be partially dialated and effaced for weeks before anything will happen.WIth my first child i was dialated and almost completely effaced at my 34 week check and didnt have her for another 4 weeks..Don't do anything super strenuous but at this point even if you had your baby at 35 eweks they'd more then likely be fine. Also if labor started i don't think they'd do anything to try to stop it.. No worries.

I was 1 cm and 50 percent @ 35 weeks. I started having lots of irregular contractions since then.
I'm still stuck at a 1 and 50, and I'm 39 weeks.
Everyone's different, though.
It has been the longest month of my life!

I am 33 weeks and 4 days today and the baby has completley dropped and I am 1 cm dialated. With my first I went into pre-term labor having him at 36 weeks....so they are guessing that this one will be born around the same time. We are trying to keep her in a little longer though-at least to 37 weeks...so I am taking it easy.
I know what you mean about the pressure/feeling stuff going on.

I found out yesterday I am 3cms dilated, 50% effaced and almost 39 weeks... I did have contractions 2 weeks ago, so maybe thats when it started...

Most ppl dont get checked until about 36 weeks+ so who knows when it really starts?
Its not like my midwife checked every week....I dont think Ihave ever heard of that, so when it does begin to happen, Im sure it would still be different for everyone.

Everyone thinks I'm crazy at my house. I'm staying with my parents while my husband is deployed, and my little sister doesn't understand that all that pressure hurts really bad.

I was 33 wks I think, and I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Tuesday I was checked and it's the same, but the baby is low... I been having more contractions and pressure. Hopefully I changed more when I go back. Dr. is inducing May 27th if my cervix makes more change.

Mine constantly has her hand on her head and I can feel it moving and wiggling around down there. Sometimes I'm afraid I'll look down and there'll be a hand waving back at me. Haha. Even whenI went to the hospital a few days ago to get checked out for everything, they did an ultrasound and she had her hand on the top of her head. It's insane, and it' hurts SO bad. Not to mention it feels like she's trying to crawl on her belly with her elbows, I can feel those little boney elbows and shoulders grinding into my hips.

I'm 30 weeks and 1 cm dilated and 40% effaced. With my son I was 1 cm dilated and 60% effaced at 29 weeks (I had him at 36w 6d...induced for high BP). My mom had twins and was 2 cm dilated sometime during her 7th month and went to term. People can be effaced and even dilated for a long time. It's actually probably good that your body is starting to do something since it can take awhile.

I know what everyone is saying about them pushing on your cervix. It amazes me how painful it can be. I couldn't sleep the other night because it kept head-butting or punching or kicking or whatever and it just takes your breath away. The next day the doctor told me she isn't surprised I was feeling so much pain because the baby is right up against my cervix. Unfortunately, I still have (hopefully) at least 7 more weeks to go. I hope it goes back up and and quits playing around down there!

I just wish something would happen. Either these contractions slow down and the pressure go away, or I go into labor. This in between business is driving me nuts.

I was dilated 1 cm and 50% for 5 or 6 weeks. Then I went from 1 to 3 within a couple of days. I might ought to mention that I was 1 cm at 30 weeks and I still made it to 38 weeks. I was also never put on complete bedrest unless I was actively contracting. Then I had to go lie down. I was taken off all medications at 36 weeks.

By the time they indcued me at 37 weeks 6 days I was 5 cm and 95% effaced and still not really in any acitve labor.I went in that morning and the nurse asked me if I had been contracting. I was like maybe. I really just couldn't tell anymore because I contracted throughout my whole pregnancy. I was having contractions every few minutes and had no care in the world that morning. I was kinda worried about the big needle in my back though.

Also, as far as being put on bedrest at 35 weeks....I think it just depends on the doctor. I think some doctors are really aggressive when it comes to bedrest and some just let things ride. Like someone else said, at least you are 35 weeks now and hopefully you'll at least make it another week if not longer. I'm a Neonatal ICU nurse and can tell you that your baby should be fine if she's born now. Of course, the longer you can keep her in there, the better. But, the odds are definitely in your favor at this point.
