Grrrrr stupid effexor!!!

posted 15th May
My husband and Idecided to start tcc so i got off my effexor really quick...apparently too quick. It caused withdrawl symptoms that are exactly the same as pregnancy symptoms. I though for sure I was pg and took two tests that both came back negative..and finally figured out that its from coming off effexor too fast. Anyone else had this experience?

yep. come off of it very very very very slowly. otherwise you'll be ridiculously sick. i wouldn't compare it to being pregnant tho... at least it wasn't for me.

I don't know about pregnancy symptoms because I quit my Effexor at the beginning of my 3rd trimester. I can tell you this though, the withdrawls are terrible! I did nothing but cry constantly, had the shakes, sweat, and spiked a high BP. They were so bad my psychiatrist told me he doesn't even want to prescribe it to anyone anymore.
It's too bad- it was a very effective medication for me, and for a lot of other people as well.

I agree... that's probably the BEST one.. of course it would give us all so many problems...
They let you stay on it while you were pregnant? I didn't think it was one of the "approved" ones (that suck ass anyway and don't do anything)

It caused me to miss my period (which never happens) and a thousand other things. I got off it before without too much problems, just a few bad days. Now the withdrawls didn't hit me until two weeks after i stopped taking it...exactly when AF was due... so it tricked me.

They let me stay on quite a few of my meds, actually. I was closely monitored. I'm still a nervous wreck wondering how my son will be.
I was switched to a very low dose of Lexapro in April, because it's supposed to be somewhat safer. I guess I'm one of those "benefits outweigh the risks" people.

Yes, Effexor is approved for both pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Motherisk in Toronto (the people who run the studies of the effect of drugs in pregnancy and breastfeeding and publish the information that the doctors use) will confirm it.

It is ok to take during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
They just took me off of it because I was being a basketcase about PPH, and I was taking 225 mg a day (talk about overload).

Outstanding... I know what you mean about the benefits/ risks thing... I just had to switch a bunch of my meds because of my athsma... I was SO WORRIED about what it would do to the baby... but I guess it's more important to breathe soo... hahah. I just took myself off the concerta because it's a controlled substance as it is.. and if I can't take advil I probably shouldn't take that... in my opinion at least... and I tried to tell myself... well dumbass, wtf do you have to be so sad about all the time... you're gunna have a baby! I'm ok sooo far... but we'll see.

I liked lexapro for the most part... except after awhile I couldn't orgasm... tmi? Sorry. But seriously, no matter what I tried... it just would NOT happen... so that was the end of that. hahah

Sad to say, but I don't even remember the last time I had one of those.

Hey I was just wondering what dose of lexapro are you on? I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I'm on 10 mg a day and my doc is fine with it...

I was up to 225 for a bit after I gave birth, I'm usually on 150, personally.
