Don't give up... *vent*

posted 6th Aug '12
I am trying so hard to not give up on getting my diploma. I really want to graduate from high school and not get my GED. I want to walk and get my diploma for my kids. I want to show my son and my daughter that yes, it was hard but I still did it so I know they can too.

The school changed their policies this year though and what was really helping me finish my courses is no longer allowed. They used to allow you to move ahead in your classes as far as you want and turn in your work. They would also give you an extension in your class if you didn't complete it in the 6-12 week period allowed.

Now I can't move ahead in my classes which is something I was really counting on. I needed to be able to get ahead in my classes so that I don't fall behind when I have the baby. They will not accept late work and only give you a week to do assignments and turn them in. I keep thinking what if something goes wrong and I'm in the hospital for a week? I wont be able to do and turn in those assignments and I'll recieve a zero as the final score. They will not allow me to make up assignments that I miss.

I can't move ahead and I can't turn in work late. I am so worried because I was relying on being able to get ahead to keep myself afloat in classes while I adjusted to bringing home the baby and recovering from child birth. I just feel like the harder I try, the further behind I fall.

To make it worse we are supposed to start school today but they will not let me access my classes. After several emails and a few phone calls I still don't have access. UGH.

I'm trying so hard not to give up... I don't know what to do.

Can you work ahead and just wait to turn it in until it's due?

When I talked to my counselor he said I can move ahead to a certain point but if I don't turn it in by it's due date it is counted as a zero. Thinking I might have to rent/borrow a lap top to take with me to the hospital just in case. My husband thinks I should look at an alternate schooling choice but this one allows me to work at my own pace and stay home with the kids.

other way around. pinnacle lost my entire junior year in a server crash and wanted to make me redo all of the work. i graduated at primavera and i loved it, except they wouldn't let me work ahead past a certain point.

That's how pinnacle is right now. I'm getting so frustrated because they switched servers so I can't access any of my math stuff because the image HTML that they use for my math class don't show up on my browser so it's a hit and miss.

I am so ready to just quit. I don't know what to do anymore. DH is taking me to look into other schools tomorrow and to talk to the local high school and see if they can work with me at all.

Getting your GED is the same as getting a diploma. I got my GED at 16, started college at 17 and now I'm expecting a boy and I'm only 18, but I know I can still finish college. As long as you go somewhere in life you shouldn't worry about if you have a GED or a diploma. You should be proud of whatever you accomplish, as long as you don't just go waste your time after you get your GED people will respect you.
I've even had job tell me that they would rather hire someone with their GED because it shows that they have the drive to get something done, even if it is faster than high school.
There are governors, senators, astronauts, CEOs, musicians, surgeon generals, etc who all got their GEDs. And many more people (Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, Simon Cowell, Quentin Tarantino, Margret Brown, Princess Diana, the Wright Brothers, Wolfgang Puck, Roy Rogers, and many many many more) who didn't even graduate high school or get a GED. It's not about the diploma, it's about what you do with yourself in your life. I know PLENTY of kids with a high school diploma who won't make it anywhere in life.

Getting my diploma means more to me than just getting my GED. I really want to graduate from high school with a diploma. It's a personal goal and I feel like if I can't accomplish this one goal, how can I accomplish any others that I set out to do?
