In my opinion, as long as spanking is your last resort and you have at least tried to get through to your child than it is acceptable. Also in the event of putting himself or others in danger and he does not decide to listen than that definitely warrants for a spanking. It's also important to know your limits. Do not excessively spank your child then he will become immune to it and it won't be effective. And please please please never use anything but your hand to spank your child. I just feel like that's the worst thing you could do. I have seen kids with scars because parents used belts or other objects, that's just crossing the line in my book.
