Hospital bag outfits for baby?

posted 5th Aug '12
I'm about to ask what could be an extremely stupid question to some...

How many outfits do you big to the hospital for baby? Do I need a few for the stay or does the hospital provide onsies until we are ready to leave? Also, do I bring just newborn or should I have a premie, newborn and 0-3 on hand just in case?

TIA

The hospital provide little shirts for them to wear so they don't have to take the onesies off everytime they need to check them out.

I brought 1 sleeper and a take home outfit for my last LO

And I think newborn clothes or 0-3mo ones would be good.

I took two onesies and a sleeper. I had a repeat c-section, though, so I was there for 3.5 days.

With Landon, we were there for 6 days total (didn't know it'd be that long but he had bad jaundice). He wore those shirts up until the day we took him home. I didn't even pack other outfits, just the coming home outfit.

With Mallory, I think I'll pack 2-3 little sleepers & her coming home outfit. I really don't know WHY I didn't with Landon. I guess I just listened to everyone else lol but with Mal, I'll be taking pictures & such I'm sure, putting her in her little outfits.

Ultimately it's really just up to you.

They will provide a shirt to wear while he's there so they don't have to keep taking off a onsie to do vitals. Bring different sizes for sure! My son was too big for newborn clothes! Noone was expecting him to be so big at birth.

I brought a going home outfit and a sleeper for pictures for each sex since we were surprised.
we kept him blanketed in a diaper during our stay.

Maybe bring a preemie and a newborn. Newborn tends to be baggy on smaller side of average babies. 0-3 months is giant. Lol.

Awesome, thank you ladies, I guess it just never crossed my mind until now exactly how many to bring. I was unaware the hospital provided the shirts until we leave

Lol, that's a lot. Especially if it's a normal delivery. How long do they keep you there?

They sure do. You don't really NEED extra clothes other than to take em home in since most of the time (at least in my case) they're just wrapped in that shirt, a diaper and a receiving blanket. When I put my daughter in a sleeper, she had to go to the nursery for a check and they took it off of her and put that shirt back on lol. Easier for them.

0-3 months is what my son came home in. Its a little baggy but it fits! Lol. My son surprised us all and came out at 9lbs 15oz when everyone expected under 8lbs(even the doctor)

My son was 9lbs 12oz and fit in newborn. It's weird how the sizing goes, isn't it? Depends on the brand, the material, etc. Drives me nuts.

Perfect, funny the things first time mommy's are unaware of. Good thing I asked or I would have gone prepared for a week lol.

This makes me crazy, as I'm sitting here putting things side by side to choose what to take I just realized how much of a difference there really is. You don't notice it while buying the stuff, now that it's side by side there is a HUGE difference.
