Single moms and roommates

If I were to have a female roommate live with me and my 4 year old daughter, would it confuse her? I'm just trying to save money really... on rent. it's expensive!!! Also if my ex ever took me to court for visitation/custody would me having a female roommate look bad?

As long as your roomate isnt some big deadbeat drug addict or anything i dont think it would make you look bad. And i would just tell your child that your friend is going to be living with you for awhile. I dont think its a big deal.

I personally think it's an intelligent decision to save money and to make as long as you ensure that the roommate is responsible, reliable, etc. Maybe like a friend of yours? What about someone else with a child as well? I can't imagine a judge thinking it was a poor decision unless the roommate was a drug addict, or bringing sex offenders around or something like that. I'm sure your daughter is old enough to know who mommy is and understand the concept of having a roommate.

As long as you have a roommate who is an actual roommate and not just a freeloader (which is the mistake I made when I got my first place) then its an awesome way to save money and no judge is gonna look down on you for it as long as your roommate is clean and has no record. I had a male roommate...well technically he took me and my daughter in when no one else would...and we shared all the bills equally and it was the best thing I ever did. I had more free money while living with him then I have in the last 8 months of living with my husband (who doesn't know how to save money if it'd save his life). It won't confuse your daughter because she already knows who you are. I say if you can find someone who'll actually be a roommate and not be a freeloader then go for it.

be sure they aren't a freeloader.
be sure there are clear rules on bringing people over, partying, buying food, messes, etc.
I probably wouldn't want a close friend to move in, but not a stranger, either.
I would probably ask for references.

My friends WITHOUT children who go into similar situation (with a room mate with a child) almost ALL complained about how they felt they were forced to take care of the child at some point. I would make sure to be careful to avoid that, as well.

...as long as the person is respectful of you and your child its a good idea and great when it comes to saving money. if nothing illegal is goingon your GOOD.

I thought I sent you a message about that, the dad is stalking me.... So I will not mention him again on here. My parents are adopting him. It's a sticky situation that I do not wish to talk about right now because of drama queens on this sight.
