ADHD

**** FOR A FRIEND DON'T QUOTE PLEASE
Child 4 years old well just made 4 in July would you put him/her on a dosage of 3mg intuniv? I have heard it is really too early to diagnose a four year old because most preschoolers are naturally active.

If so why? or would you explore all natural options first

*****INTUNIV is a prescription medicine used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients ages 6 to 17. INTUNIV may be used alone or added to an ADHD stimulant medicine. INTUNIV should be used as part of a total treatment plan that may include counseling or other therapies. INTUNIV was shown to work in clinical studies lasting up to 9 weeks.

I t also clearly states on website 6-17
Btw this child has been on adhd medicines sine they were 3

I have researched it and alot of sites say it is really too young to diagnose at that age and they said the mg has to do with weight also but I couldnt find a weight chart. It broke my heart today the child is such a zombie

I would explore all natural options first, different ways of handling things & so on. My brother was adhd but my mother refused to put him on meds taht early because she was afraid they would stunt his growth, & they did once he was put on them at 5

i personally wouldn't trust a diagnosis that young. already dealing with mistrust of it at age 6. and definitely disagree with meds for children. i agree as a last resort. but also, you have to remember that the meds are only one half. behavior modification/therapy is the other half. they go hand in hand. so, for us, we have tried behavior modification on its own, and if it fails to work, we will consider meds along with it. good luck to your friend.

yeah I said that the childs mother needs to explore all options first but I am convinced she is just trying to get an SSI check for him. I know she has not tried all the ther options to help him he has just turned four my God I am like a stern talking to and behavior issues being tackled the child will be fine. I feel bad

i know not all behaviors can be helped by just the modification, but i feel that some can, you just need to really be invested in it and consistent. it's tough, but i believe it can work. and idk who diagnosed the kid, but that is way too young.

Thats what I said I asked him to ask her whats his diagnoses she didnt have a damn answer. If my child was taking any thing I would know his diagnoses off the back. I don't know what to tell him I just wrote down a bunch of smurf and gave it to him about the drug now he doesn't want the little child to go home neither do I

well, idk your situation or whatever, and i don;t need to know, but... the way it is for us is the kid is my boyfriend's child. his ex (kid's mom) wants to put the kid on meds, but my boyfriend and i don't. they have joint legal custody of the child, and the only reason i am involved is because they both agreed it was okay for me to be (at meetings, give my opinion, etc.). but when it comes to the actual legality of it, my say really doesn't matter. in any event, his ex could not get the child medicated without his consent. so... idk if that helps or not, but...

i'm glad you feel this way and are rational about it!!   my bf's ex has mentioned that she thinks the kid is bipolar, but she knows no one would diagnose her with that now, but.... i wouldn't put it past her to get mad or frustrated sometime soon and try. especially if she doesn't get a job soon. she is money hungry... so, i worry about her doing that...

See I dont get people like that... I mean I am really hurting for money. I cant find a job and deadbeat hasnt paid in 3 months.... Why use your kid as a pawn for money?   See good thing someone doesnt think Im money hungry. My ext thinks that I am totally money hungry.. Yeah OK... If I was I wouldnt be so iffy about putting my 5 year old on meds... People like that really give people like me a bad name.

Yeah it's my SO son I don't have any say so well he asks me what I think but as far as her boy I tell you. i just looked up bunches of stuff wrote it down for him and told him these are the exact questions you need to ask he feels so helpless because he has asked her more than once not to do that. Look like it's time for me to pull out the child support and visitation papers to see what it says on medical. She works she recieves child support she lives with her mom she always has her hair and smurf done but the boys llok like crap it was so bad where I started telling him to let her know she doesn't have to pack a bag because we had clothes because she packs the most ragedy smurf she can find . I was in tears today when they came over because they just looked so homely and the 4 year old was spaced out.I only input when he ask me I try and let hi handle his own affairs

What the smurf man. The mom should be the raggy looking one. Smurf.. I am always smurffy looking, my son is ALWAYS looking nice and good. He looks like a poor kid when he goes to his dad because I dont like sending him in nice clothes to get messed up.

but yeah your SO needs to get back on that smurf because a 4 year old shouldnt be on meds.. wtf.
