3D/4D Ultrasound

Did any of you have one around 20 weeks? Could you see the facial features really well? (Post a before/after if you can) We want to go have one done, but I was wondering if we should wait until I am further along to have it done.

If you're scheduling it and your dr isn't requiring it I would wait until 27-32 weeks. You will get a waaaay cuter baby. They're still scrawny at 20 wks.

I've never heard of doctors requiring it - I guess if they think something is wrong?
But, yea we're wanting to do it on our own. I figured we should wait, I just can't help being impatient ;)

I got amazing ones at 28 and 32 weeks. Make sure you drink PLENTY of water, OP. Like days in advance so the pictures are clearer.

I lived in Texas with my last daughter, and they had three ultrasounds, and the third one was a 3D/4D.. and it was just procedure.. nothing wrong with baby.. nothing suspected.. that's just how they were doing things.. not sure why.

I don't think they'll do it here though (Michigan)... I haven't seen anyone else around here with one.

I would wait, I had mine done at 30 weeks and they turned out good. I know its hard to wait but it will be worth it especially since later in pregnancy they look more like a baby than a little alien.

i would wait until your closer to 30 weeks . i got mine done at 27 weeks and i was happy with the pictures and everything even then =) my cousin got hers done at 20 weeks and she said was dissapointed she didnt wait longer . they ended up spending the money again and she went back at 27 weeks and got better pictures .

Well I'm going to get one at a high risk specialist. It'll prolly be the only dr one I get. But I wish I was gona be ather along so I got some good pics. I'll only r 11 weeks. Some people say the u/a tehs around here will give you a 3d during your anatomy scan. Which is usually 18 weeks. So obviously you can't plan that to be later or anything. But for a novelty one for sure wait.

Where do u live? I paid to have mine done last time and I had to drive 3 hrs downstate for it. But now everyone keeps telling me they do it at the hospital during yor anatomy scan. I'm like where the hell was that 5 yra ago?!?!

I live in central Michigan, in a fairly small town.. but I have only had my first two ultrasounds so far.. (I'm not even sure if they do a third one, here.. but I would think they would to make sure she's not breach, right?) .. but this is my first time having a baby in Michigan, so I really don't know what to expect.

In Texas, the third one was a 3D/4D (and it was completely covered by insurance and medicaid) .. but that was just with my daughter (about 2 years ago).. My son was 8 years ago (also in Texas), and they didn't do the 3D/4D with him..

That doesn't tell me much haha. Some people call Lansing central mi cause its centered in the bottom of the state. I am literally the center of the state top to bottom and side to side. Is that the area you're in too? Like you deliver in mt p, midland, Saginaw, or bay city?

I live about half an hour away from Grand Rapids.. sorry, not comfortable getting too specific.. but I will deliver in the town I live in.

Idk the hospital down there sorry. I only know te ones I listed. Those are in my area. You might luck out and have 3r but if they didn't do them yet they might not.

I got one done at 18 weeks then again at about 22(they couldn't see part of his heart in the at 18 weeks) So I couldn't imagine the difference a few more weeks would have been!

Thank you for posting. Based on what everyone has said, I am going to try and make myself wait at least another 6 weeks. It sounds so hard already LOL
