re: I'm offended by this! (food stamp picture)

posted 5th Aug '12
I mostly really don't care very much. This same picture has been posted by one of my Facebook friends at least three times and a few more times by others. People are going to spend their money (regardless of how they acquire it) the way they want to. If a family is poor enough to need assistance, I can't help but feel it's irresponsible to spend money on luxuries, however small, when there are surely places that money isn't being spent that would be more important. I don't get angry about it though. It's their life, not mine and I'm going to have to pay taxes regardless. Also, you really can't judge the circumstances solely on what you see and I make an effort to remember that when I start to make these kinds of assumptions.

this one pisses me off. i was on foodstamps up until this month when i took a second job. i worked 52-80 hour weeks but i worked nights. either 11 pm-7 am, 11pm-3 pm, or 3 pm-7 am. so when i had to run errands, it'd be during the day, and i know at least a few people were judging me asan unemployed bottom feeder, when I've actually worked my ass off to get free of assistance.

Congratulations things are going better for you. I hope you can afford as many luxuries as you want.

Federal money is taken out of my paycheck every time for FS. And I am a recipient. I don't think you really know what you are talking about.

Federal income tax pays for the FS program. Unless you bump into a high income tax bracket for the remainder of the year, you will get you federal income taxes back.

Everyone never mentions the mother of 4 that is busting her ass, paycheck to paycheck, goes without eating so her children can, never sees them because she is working so much minimum wage, etc.
Any FS program will tell you that FS is not meant to be replied on completely. It is only supposed to supplement a certain amount of your monthly food needs. But it is, by a lot of people, because they have no other choice.

My FIL gets around $7,000 back a year, after having closer to $10,000 taken out federal a year. People from all incomes get their taxes back, and they do NOT get them all back. Including myself, who gets federal taken out every paycheck, and I DO NOT get it all back, by any means at all. And if he is getting $10,000 a year taken out federal, you know he doesn't make minimum wage. I mean, come on. Like I said, you really don't know what you are talking about.

That's what I'm saying! My husband busted his ass to get my iPhone & our car. Didn't know we were supposed to get rid of them just because he lost his job & we need aid now... :|

It has been widely written about:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36226444/ns/business-personal_finance/t/half-us-pays-no-federal-income-tax/

So, even if you paid a small amount in, about 13% of that goes to ALL safety net programs. Of that, an even smaller amount of your paycheck goes to FS.

For example, if you make $30k and pay a nt of 2% to federal income tax, that is $600. 13% of that is $78 that goes to all safety net programs. $78 doesnt go very far.

Normally I keep negative comments to myself. But I really think you need to just delete this post from your list, and stop responding. You're just pissing a lot of people off. Who cares what people pay out in taxes. Or what you pay out in taxes, or your husband. No one gives a smurf. We also don't give a smurf what your husband makes. Some of us won't see that much in 5 years. Some of us were quite unfortunately born in to poor families. And mommy and daddy couldn't send us to college. Some of us weren't in the top 5% of our class to receive significant grants for college. College just wasn't in the cards for us. I've worked since I was 16. College was an option for me because my parents could afford it. But silly me ended up pregnant at 19. I worked full time. And received food stamps. My daughter wouldn't have been eating had I not. I've had an iPhone since the first came out. Courtesy of mommy and daddy. And it's upgraded the week the next comes out. I went to college, for a dumb degree that gives me minimum wage. Unless I want to work smurffy second or third shift in a hospital an hour from home. So I pass. When I finally got a promotion. I was ecstatic. But just to find out that I was kicked off of housing and fs programs. I couldn't afford my rent. And I now live back home with my parents. And am pregnant, yet again. About to start another job, making a whopping $13 an hour. It will be yet again, too much for assistance. I'll struggle. But I'll be back out on my own again. Maybe when 3 comes, I'll be able to get fs again. And you can be damn certain I won't be giving up my child's name brand clothes or my iPhone. My clothes are always hand me downs from my sisters. I spend money on expensive stuff because my children don't deserve to do without because of my smurf ups. I live in a fairly wealthy community. What you wear to school can ruin your reputation. Smurf just happens like that. It's sad, but it's because of smurfs like you who feel they're better than everyone because their paycheck is bigger. And my daughter deserves better than what I truly can offer. Deal with it. I don't get what I want.. But my daughter does. Anyway. This is rambling. But you're not a better person by making others feel like poop. Especially on a computer. I've noticed that most of people on this site that act like they're better than others have serious flaws on the other side of the screen. Degrading people makes you a veryyy sad person. And I feel bad for your children. Because they're probably going to grow up feeling like they're better than others, blah blah. And reality will hit them in the face one day. What happened to the saying. "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"? Being an online bully doesnt make you superior. It makes you a smurfing douchebag. So seriously, stop trying to prove your point. No one gives a smurf, and half of us are laughing at you. I smurfing hate people like you.

My car is paid off. Why would I sell it for a crap car when it's paid for? And if I sold my iPhone, I'd have to get another phone, and the money I got from selling my phone would go to buying a new one, and I'd have like nothing left. It's pointless. I'd still end up on aid anyway.

Also, I got my tattoo started yesterday. It's huge, and by the time it's finished it'll cost at least a grand. I'm not paying for it, but I'm sure people will see it and think I'm abusing the system.

You're assuming about her just as much as people assume about people on FS. You're honestly no better.

I don't have any money for school, nor was I in the top 5% in my class. It's called a federal pell grant. I receive 2,775 per semester from the pell grant. I also receive a BOG waiver, which waives 552 in school fees. My college even has a calWORKS program that helps students on TANF pay for supplies, and provides childcare. Who the smurf cares what you wear to college? Last I checked, students in college are adults. You're making excuses for why you can't better yourself instead of getting out there and trying.

I also live with my mother.

So I really don't see why you have any place to scold her when you're doing the same thing she's doing. You tell her 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all', yet you said some not so nice things to her. How's that hypocrisy going down?

Oh yea, and $10 comes out of my check into my daughter's savings account every week. With number two, that'll be $80 a month. And if I do happen to have food stamps, do they not deserve that because it's a weeks worth of food I could be buying for myself? Does my daughter not deserve to have a headstart on college because mommy is poor? You have no reason to care how anyone else spends their money. Every choice I make is with the hopes that my daughter has better opportunities than most of America, now a days.

I'm responding to the frequent response of "i pay taxes so I'm entitles to ___"

I havent degraded anyone. so, YOU are making a lot of assumptions about me and mine and have gone off the deep end.
