Devastated

posted 4th Aug '12
So after sex on Wednesday, I had a little bit of spotting. It was just brown blood, and I had a little cramping. Nothing serious but I got checked out anyways. They did two ultrasounds at the hospital and said they could not find a fetal heartbeat. The doctor said that the baby didn't look consistent with how far along I am but maybe the dates are off (they matched up perfect at my 6w4d ultrasound with when my last period was) and if it's alive, it isn't doing well. I don't know why no one can tell me if the baby is at least alive or not. I'm so upset. I have had no bleeding at all or pain since right after sex and no one is doing anything. My baby could have been gone for a long time but my body's been hanging on to it. I have to wait until Tuesday to get another ultrasound done. I just want some answers.

I am hoping for the best for you and your LO hun!! Bleeding is normal in early pregnancy.. many women have some sort of spotting. I will keep my fingers crossed that it all comes out good! Did they check you HCG levels?

No, they didn't do anything except two quick ultrasounds in the ER and didn't say anything except they can't see a heartbeat or anything. I never had bleeding with my daughter, and it wasn't even bleeding. It was a tiny bit of brown blood when I wiped RIGHT after sex. That was it. No other problems at all throughout this pregnancy. Everything looked perfect at 6w4d and I was supposed to be 12 weeks tomorrow.

I am sorry that happened to me before I conceived this baby. I had an u/s at 10w 4d and they told me same thing. I miscarried naturally at home a few days later.

I'm so sorry, mama. I went through a similar situation last year. I went to my first OB appointment expecting to hear the heartbeat and possibly see the baby, but I found out the baby had passed away nearly a month before. I was almost 11 weeks and the baby was measuring at about 7 weeks. It was so totally unexpected, because I wasn't bleeding or cramping at all. My heart goes out to you. It's a horrible thing to go through.

First of all, I'd make an appointment with your regular OB for a follow up. For something like spotting, the ER is not the place to go. More often than not, they have no clue what they're talking about. Your ob will have the right equipment and the experienced staff. At 6 weeks or so, everything is teeny tiny and depending on the machine they used, etc, they probably won't be able to see much. The measurements can be different too from one machine to the next. This is all stuff I learned the hard way over the years.. Good luck and here's hoping the ER dr was an idiot!
